Here's the deal, My equipment was stolen last month and, I am trying to get back into practicing/playing now however, I did not swing a club for about a month and, I am rusty! I find myself hitting behind the ball "YUCK" Playing again with Mp 52's with my current swing / chunky style. is not too much fun the mp52's while forgiving are not meant to be used by a hacker which is what I am playing like. I went from playing well to being a goofy uncoordinated schmuck in 1 month. Any good tips would be appreciated. Should I just think "Ball first Contact"? or, what?

It very easy to get your swing back after a month of not touching a club.
In fact look at it as an opportunity to improve your swing because you forgot all your bad habits.

1) check your fundamentals
a) grip
b) posture
c) take away
d) take away without swaying
e) take away and picking up the club on a natural arc without moving your rear knee that should be already slightly bent
f) check proper club and toe position at waist high on your backswing
g) try practicing waist high backswing and waist high follow through naturally turning over the club after impact, this is the impact zone
h) if you make solid contact you are on your way to finding and improving your swing.

good luck

Ouch, sorry to hear that your sticks were stolen. Like you said, I'd just try to meet the ball and get the click of club to ball sound back. The click of a forged club to a ball is one of the greatest sounds.

When I hit some chunker munkers, it's because I'm overswing and going after it a little too much. I chunked a couple of SWs last week because I was trying to push it a little further than my range with that club. The fundamentals are nicely laid out above.

If I were you I'd find a place where I could chip and pitch. Play 10 yard chip shots and 20 yard pich shots. Drop a towel 20 yards onto the green and try and hit it on the fly. Then try the shorter shot and try to end the ball on the towel. Spend a several one hour sessions doing that and draining a few 4 footers. You'll get your feel back and you can move on to the 50 yard shot and then the waist-high-back and waist-high-through shot with your mid irons.

Thanks all for the posts, I really appreciate it. I will try and do exactly what ks8829 laid out. " Thanks for that guide. "very good"

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
