Just came back from a three day trip to a lovely golf course with good friends and excellent course staff treating us very well.
So, why should I be ranting? Well, my game was totally and utterly crap!
I don't play well at new courses with new people, but you'd think that after three days it would get better. It did not.

My scores were 100, 110 and 105. Consistently bad at least, but it's a score a player with a hcp of 27 should play to. I should score 92, or at least below 100. I know handicap indicates potential, but I wasn't even close. I was +39 to my net handicap after 54 holes.

So, what went wrong? Well, just about everything I've been struggling with the last years. Over the top, hitting it fat, open clubface, looking up early with the head. I lost a lot of balls, mostly because of a driver that did not work at all. If I sliced one right, I'd damn sure pull it left on the next shot. I paid attention to my divots, they mostly pointed way left of where I was aiming with the irons and woods. If I happened to get the swing plane somewhat in place, the clubface was open and I'd still go right.

And the putting? On the putting green before the first round I putted amazingly. All the putts was close enough for a tap in, even long ones. But on the course, everything fell apart. I didn't read the greens right (which had just been holed and sanded, had high grass, which contributed to the bad reading), my speed was right out bad. First I hit all of them long, 1-3 meters past the hole, then I started hitting them short. Don't think I made a single putt actually. The last day I had a 1,5 meter putt for par, which would have been my first par of the day, but I missed it, of course.

I've recently improved my ball striking, so when I hit the ball well it was a beauty to both watch and feel. This did however not happen too often. On the last round I hit two or three drives, all of which lost me a golf ball. The rest I hit 5 wood or 4 iron. My swing path has been good lately, but now it's back to the beginning. I'm going to find a good instructor and get some help. I know what I'm doing wrong, but sometimes having someone else pointing it out or showing how I could fix it can be really helpful.

It's strange how playing golf can be very fun and at the same time so boring for playing badly.

dude, I totally sympathize. I'm going through the same thing at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your swing melt-down. That's one worry that has kept me from visiting a golf resort on the weekend is having a horrible time due to terrible swing flaws. I can pay a lot less to have my swing melt down on a local course (lol).

One of my short-term golfing objectives is to have a swing I'm comfortable with anywhere I play. Oh, well, back to practicing...

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

That's where I want to get to, a place where I can trust my swing. I know what I'm doing wrong, but don't know how to do it right or how to go forth getting there. Biggest problem are the arms and wrists, I occasionally get it right, but have to get some help to find out how I should do it.
