Our tournament director thought it would be fun (albeit serious) to put on a Flying Lady event. Format was 18 hole stroke play from the woman's tees with the easiest pin placements. 5240 yards with a course rating is 70.6 / slope 127 from the red tees (although I'm not sure how the GAM cam up with those ratings ). It was a very humbling experience for many of the 28 entrants who thought they were going to shoot mid to low 60's. There were lots of decent players (3-5 hdcp) unable to break par and lots of good players (0-2 hdcp) shooting right at or just below par. Course management was nonexistent. Not once (as far as I know) did anybody attempt to put themselves in the scoring zone (80-100 yds for me). Everything was driver, driver, driver which led to many awkward 50ish yard shots. I played as reckless as most but found myself able to capitalize on those 50 yard shots. I shot 65 (-7) and tied for first place but won on the first playoff hole. Not as prestigious as the club championship but I'll take it !

Hey, congrats! -7 under any curcimstances is pretty good. I remember you posted once before about this format and thought it was a good idea for an event. Glad it worked out for you. Congrats again!

My club did this last fall and it was pretty fun. The course was a little longer about 5400 yds but it was a lot driver and 50 to 70yd pitches. I'm surprise that not more people shot lower. The guy that won shot a 61 and pretty much everyone in the championship flight shot in the 60s.

I too am surprised the scores were not lower. I suppose if there were more course management involved scores would have been better but there were egos and 460CC drivers with x-stiff shafts involved.

There were 9 of the 24 under par. Top 5 and last place scores below: 65 tie 66 67 tie … … … … 91 (last place )
