Played with a couple of guys today that I haven't played with in a couple of months.

It was a lot of fun. I've sort of been skirting around playing with them lately due to their games being so much better than mine. I feel like a dork when I sweep a hook into the woods and spend a minute looking for it.....or my suckish sand play has them pondering diving for cover.

I've been playing once a week (finally) and made a couple of recent grip adjustments that have really helped...confidence is up....etc. etc.

Front nine was fairly straight away. I used driver on both par 5's and 3 of the par 4's. I hit 3hybrid on a short par 4 that set up a PW second shot.

The back nine is our hardest nine by most people's assesments. The two opening holes are dogleg-lefts. I had a decent score going and decided to keep things safe. I used my 3wood for both tee shots and placed the ball perfectly in the A-1 locations.....virtually the same spots Chief Broom hit with his 3 wood on our Sunday afternoon round. Thanks for the blueprint, Chief!!!

The final hole is a slight dogleg-left par 5 with a ditch running out about 270yards from the tee box. Once again...a smooth 3 wood put me exactly where I wanted to be....

I'm really enthused...I have 3 holes on the other nine that I want to try 3wood on. It's been a long time since I've had a 3 wood that really inspired confidence for me. I'm onto something now. No wonder there are so many guys at our club gaming these Burner fairway woods.

I put my driver away on Tuesday and took my 3 wood off of all the tees and I shot a 37... Being in the fairway makes a massive difference; not to mention, I hit my 3 wood 240 anyway...

if you think the 2007 burner fairway woods are nice, wait until you try their hybrids! Those things were amazing, i remember my old 22*. I had a hard time not hitting that thing high and straight. If only i could find another like it, except with a lower launch.

230-245 is the range I've hit mine off the tee. It's been nice striping 'em near the 150 markers (favorite fairway targets). The rough is huge consideration on my home track....I suspect this wood will be used a good bit.

I'm scared to even think of such madness....my sticks are leaning up in a corner in the other room....if they heard me they'd revolt. I really like my NIKE Sumo Squared hybrids.

I know several guys who use the TM hybrids, though....all seem very pleased with them. I'll bet the sales for the R9 hybrid soared last Monday....after Y.E. Yang struck his on 18 so perfectly.

I almost bought that hybrid after watching the shot, considering my current hybrid, titleist 909h, is imposible for my to hit correctly.

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
