I'm going to agree with wedge player,I love a high ball.

until you have to play in 25 mph winds and need to hit a 4 iron from 150 yards because you can only hit a high shot.

nothing wrong with high trajectory. nothing wrong with low trajectory. Why not learn to hit both?

I hit my irons high with pretty good distance. I actually like the fact that I hit them high. It helps my game quite a bit. I still have spin.

Word on the street is that the Project X's fly lower than the TT Dynamic Gold S300's. Both of those shafts are very popular ATM.

I'm willing to bet he's making ball-first contact and you are not.

I think hitting it high is a hugh advantage. I hit it relatively low and wish I could make adjustments to hit it high. It is much easier to learn a knock down if you hit the ball high. The best players in the world hit it very high so I think trying to go away from that ball flight would be a mistake.

i can hit low shots but prefer the towering ones, thats what i was getting at anyways,i play in wind all the time so it doesnt really bother me.

Sorry to tell you your 'pro' caddie is completely off.

sorry to tell you but a ball that spins more will go lower why do you think range balls go higher than a pro v1?a pro v1x goes higher than a pro v1.golf defies logic at times.

I thought the project x were supposed to be higher launching than the dynamic gold

More spin create more up-shooting lift. Range balls are rocks. You take more club, smooth swing, and place the ball back in the stance and the the ball will stay low.

Your friend who is hitting a 9 iron 150 is really not hitting a 9 iron. Low flight implies a de-lofted club at contact. So think of it as though he's hitting a choked-up 7 iron or 8 iron. The more your hands lead the clubhead at impact, the more de-lofted the clubhead will be. Unless you're playing in a lot of wind, an unobstructed low ball flight has no particular advantage. Pros generally prefer higher flight, but hit it low when there's an advantage in doing so.

It's not. Not if you can get past the horrible grammar and look at what he's trying to say.

I think he's talking about

launch angle , albeit not very well or in a way that makes it 100% clear - I agree. Softer balls tend to launch lower than firmer balls. LAUNCH lower. Range balls launch higher than a Pro V1. Pro V1x launches higher than Pro V1. Launch isn't the same as maximum or peak height. Peak height is a function of ball speed, spin, launch angle, the dimples, etc. and it can't be stated. Some swings will hit a Pro V1 higher than a Pro V1x, some lower. But launch angle? The softer ball almost always comes off the club lower.

Wow. I would have thought it was the opposite, mainly because of the marketing. Is it the case that the ball compresses more and so doesn't have a chance to ride up the clubface above the C.G. creating a higher launch? What causes soft balls to launch lower?

What you said, primarily. Firmer balls roll up the clubface a bit more.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
