Whipping the ball or hitting through it?

So what should a nice iron or long drive feel like? Like you are "hitting through" the ball or like you are "slapping" it with the clubhead??

I feel like if you delay and slap at the ball when your clubhead gets back to parallel on the downswing (lots of lag) you will produce more distance and spin, but is accuracy compromised?

I feel like now I am "hitting through" the ball, I get good distance 155 yard 7 iron and consistent 250 yard drives...

But these pro's are hitting 300+ drives and like 175 yard 7 irons...

I hope I'm explaining myself somewhat clearly here??

Accuracy need not be compromised by lag but I work under the assumption that the more lag you retain late into the downswing the more precise you need to be and the quicker you need to be with the hands to get the clubface squared off for impact. If my hands don't work quickly enough I slice. If my right hand rotates over the left just before contact, well, I hook.
