Hi everyone, Like the title says I will be playing Mystic rock in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone here has played there. If so, can anyone give any advice to a higher handicapper like myself. I have played there twice before but it has been two years since then and both times I played it was a scramble format which to me is a completly different ball game. The company I work for has a corporate season pass so It wont cost me anything but I would like to make the best out of it. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bring a lot of golf balls and play the proper (forward-ish) tees.

I played there a few years ago with a guy who probably didn't break 250. Seriously.

I am definately going to take a lot of golf balls. I learned my lesson from the last time playing there in scramble format. I am just hoping to be able to keep my score respectable and do my best. I did get a chance to play the Links at Nemacolin last year and I played ok but it is nowhere near as tough as mystic so I am curious to see how I do.

Well I ended up playing this past sunday and ended up with a 109. Normally I wouldnt be happy with that but I actually struck the ball pretty well. The penalty strokes I had to take from taking too many chances are what mostly drove my score up. The greens took a couple of holes to get used to as well. I played in a company golf outing saturday where they had just aerated the greens (holes and sand all over) so it was like night and day. Im hoping to play up there again in a couple weeks so hopefully Ill play smarter and lower my score. I couldnt imagine playing the course from the championship tees though. Playing the whites was definately long enough for me.

    • First round at Quail Ridge: 47 + 47 = 94 *Note: It was 25+ mph winds with gust in the 35+ mph. It was also around 58 degrees. I felt like I was out in Oregon. The greens were very firm.  Driver was decent. It didn't cause me an issues.  Irons were the biggest issue. Just low point control was lacking. Mostly on the chunky side. Also, my irons were routinely 20-30 yards shorter than normal. Even on holes with a cross wind, the ball was just dying. We played an extra 9 holes after the first 18, and the wind died down by then. I stepped into a 9 iron, and it came up 15 yards short. I have no clue what is going on. I should not be hitting 9 irons 140 yards when I am hitting my driver 300 to 310 yards.  Warmup didn't give me much confidence. I just kept shanking every other iron shot. I didn't shank an iron during the round. I just felt all out of sorts today. Coordinate felt off.  yea, I have no idea if I am purposely slowing down my swing to feel my downswing piece. Again, I hit a decent 9 iron and lost 15 yards of carry. I hope this is just an off day.
    • Day 565 - 2026-04-19 Wanted to get home to do some spring cleaning type stuff, so I practiced for about seven or eight minutes and got my butt home. Just backswing stuff, mostly, with freezers and a little downswing feel. Liking the new big mirror I have.

    • Day 22: played 18. Shot okay - 80 - but long game was bad. Saved by some good putting and short game.
    • Well that's about the dumbest thing I've read today.
