I am not sure if this is the best forum, but here goes.

So I am new to the whole golf scheme, went to play at a local course earlier today.

I guess I have never been warned about hidden pebbles. I hit my first shot to about 7 feet from the cart path covered with pebbles. I was about 50 yards from the hole so I decided to pull out my gap wedge.

So I did my practice shot (not really full swing full force) near the ball and I heard a small "ting" sound. When I looked at my club, my gap wedge now has two nasty (kind of deep, but may be exaggerating a bit) scratch on the bounce.

I am just wondering if this is really bad for the club. My set is from 4-Gap wedge so I am kind of bummed that it happened to the gap wedge instead of a stand-alone sand wedge.

Is there anything I can do to minimize the damage done?

Thanks

Nah, you're alright. Clubs are made to get beaten up. It sucks when it happens right away.

Golf clubs, especially irons, are designed to hit the ground. When you do so, sometimes they hit things that can't be seen or predicted beforehand. It's just the nature of the game. Don't sweat it.... wedges will almost always be the most scarred up clubs in your bag. Think of it as battle wounds and display them with pride.

If I could find my camera, I'd post a pic of my Vokey 55 wedge that I've been playing for 4 years. It looks like it's been hit by a truck, the grooves are still good, but everywhere else is wrecked. I hit a rock in a bunker at a county course and knocked off a big piece of the chrome plating by the toe, etc.

All part of the game. It won't hurt your wedge at all.

Nice shot!

I think he meant he hit his ball and found it about seven feet away from the cart path, which is why there was a pebble so near that he could scrape his club.

I do not think he meant that he hit his ball so that it came to rest seven feet from the hole.
