Posting this for my girlfriend. Trying to get some more ideas together for her.

My girlfriend is trying to get more involved with golf and playing it so we can start playing golf together more consistently (she is completely new to golf, I got her interested and we've gone to the range ~10 times and played a par 3 ~5 times). And as most of you are aware, the amount of advice a young lady will accept from you is inversely proportional to the amount of time you spend sleeping in the same bed

So... we signed her up for a 1.5 hour clinic at a course that just opened near my house to get her some instruction by someone with something to back up what he says.

the clinic package advertised :

Enjoy 1-on-1 instruction with PGA Professionals in a small group setting!

September 10, 2009 | 5:00-6:30pm

Format: 45 min of Full Swing / 45 min of Short Game

I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for what she should expect (i've only had 1 on 1 lesson instruction never a group clinic like this), any questions she should make sure to ask the instructors, and also anything she should make sure to take note of.

Thanks again! She's very athletic so im hoping with some professional instruction she can really improve her skill set and enjoy golf more.

Lesson are the best money i've spent, Although she being a newbie to golf she is going to have so much thrown at her from different folks, you know how it is, everybody has a therory. Have her take small steps and try and retain what she learns from the Pro, and then work on it with her by your self, I remember starting out and everybody had an opnion what i should do, hold the club do this do that, and that can be very over whelming? She will have a blast and should excite her game, maybe causing her to want to play more. but also could be very fustrating as well, as she learns, hopefuly the correct way to golf. It will take time Enjoy.....

make it fun for her and if she has a girlfriend that is also new to golf this could help keep her interest.

take her to the putting green and have her putt around without giving her too much advise or teaching her, make it fun.

after the clinic make sure that she tried to practice what she learned so that she benefits from the lessons.

great advice from both of you. Thanks again! Yah that's what i was planning on for the most part.

I warned her when she first thought about playing that EVERYONE she meets who plays golf will try and teach her how to play :) Sure enough we went to the range with a friend of hers who was -horrendous- yet still found time to try and teach my girlfriend how to swing :) It made us both chuckle.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
