is there any reason to spend the extra money on the RX-I ?

they both seem about the same, 6X zoom, small, etc. i'm sure there is some reason the rx-I is more, but for this price i think i may pick one up today.

anybody have a rx-600?

thanks

Erik

I don't think this model is for golf and I didn't see anything about a "pin seeker" mode. Basically you better have a real steady hand and don't expect a whole lot once you get past 175 yds.

No it isn't for golf of course. I don't think the rx-1 has pinseeker either. Anyone else ? Call me crazy, but I think I'd rather have a non pinseeker leupold than a pinseeker bushnell from all the good reviews I've read about leupold

I could be wrong, but I don't think it has the feature that picks out the flag or the closer object, so you'll have to be even more precise with your aim to get a good reading.

And it doesn't have as many selectable reticles.

But beyond that... it's probably okay. Can't say for sure.

Easiest way to put it without some kind of "pin seeker" the further out you get the harder it is to hit the pin. If you have a real steady hand or don't need yardages outside of 150 you're fine.

Thanks Erik. In your opinion, is the pinseeker technology that important to you ? I wouldn't know, never had one but I'm ready to get one that will last me a long time.

As the others have mentioned the pinseeker mode will be the biggest obstacle. It will work fine, and if the wind is blowing you shouldn't have a problem. The Bushnell I have doesn't have any sort of pinseeker and it can be hard to get a reading on a calm day from 175+. I have used some with pinseeker, and they are much easier to use. If you have a steady hand it won't be impossible, it will just take a few extra clicks of the button to get a good reading.

I don't know what their return policy is for internet sales (I would assume it is pretty good considering the amount they do online and mail order), but you could always get it and test it out and return if you needed to.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Ok so either I'm getting the rx-600 or the cheapest pinseeker model I can find is the bushnell medalist with only 4x zoom, bigger heavier and it's 220$ on eBay vs 185 shipped for the leupold.

Which should I go for guys ????

All the pro's and con's are above and that's what you need to think about. If it was me I would go for something with a "pin seeker" mode. Remember the bushnell isn't the only one that makes a mode that will target the pin. My nikon has it and I know the golf specific leopolds have it. If they have a good return policy buy it and try it out.

I have an older NIKON that doesn't have pinseeking mode. Guess how often I use it on the golf course.....virtually none.

After you borrow one from a buddy that has the pinseeking mode you'll be spoiled. It is absolutely the way to go.

Got the medalist yesterday, a big thanks to those who told me to get the pinseeker, it is so rad. Paid 177 shipped on eBay. Really really cool. I feel like I have a more accurate idea of exactly how far each club goes and carrys now.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
