Has anyone out there played this course?

www.witchgolf.com

Sorry about the address without the http link. I'm entering this thread from a blackberry.

I just picked up 4 rounds for $50 TOTAL from a scratch golfer / friend that won't be able to make it to Myrtle Beach before his passes expire. I think he bought or won them in a charity tourny. They are legit so that's not an issue.

I'm just wondering if anybody has played this course and if they have any tips, stories, or experiences to share.

As always, thanks in advance!

Played there last year... nice track. I played from the tips and shot an 82 despite the 8 I took on the par 5 5th. It is a tight course, but a fair course. I remember the greens rolling very good. I also saw my first golf course gator there, although it was just a small one. My brother-in-law didn't like the course as much as some of the others we played, but he struggled with it too. On one hole he managed to hit two trees on opposite sides of the fairway with one shot... it was pretty impressive. I think he lost about 25 balls that day. Anyway, I would definately go back, and being that your a 12 capper, you should be able to play well enough to have a great time and enjoy a challenging but fun round.

My Mrs and I play it every year as it is one of our favorite afternoon course when we do 36.It is a Dan Maples course all tree lined and can be very soggy even in Sept or Oct.Greens are Bermuda and usually in good shape and kinda fast.Yes there are MANY GATORS on this course of all sizes and snakes also so stay out of the woods. The people who run it are very nice and will help in any way possible. In the snack bar buy the hard plastic Witch cup and you get unlimited refills and the cups are great for home or travel as they are very heavy duty plastic {we have at least 10 at home}.It has a grass range that you aim at witch signs which is kind of cool and a LARGE practice putting green.Remember it is allways damp so if it is raining do not bother going there you will be CPO {cart paths only}But you will enjoy it as it is a B+ or A- course. We will be playing it second week of Oct.

Thanks for the advice so far! These were exactly some of things I wanted to know. The two trees on opposite sides of the fairway story....hillarious Big_M! Sounds like a target hole for sure.

Thanks also Flap. From what I'm hearing...expect target golf, wet conditions, relatively fast greens. Those all are my preferences in a course (as opposed to their polar opposites). Sounds like the high launch driver and balls I usually use will maximize my carry there, given my swing. I don't think I'll tweak by irons or wedges for the wet conditions; I have plenty of bounce in my clubs anyway.

One thing I forgot bring bug repellant got some good size skeeters due to the usually damp conditions.Post when your done as I said the mrs and I will be playing it in Oct.

Wanted to play it last time I was in Myrtle...however we wound up playing the Wizard and Man-O-War instead (they are in the same complex as the Witch).

Man-O-War was okay...nothing really special, however the Wizard was a fun course. I understand that the Witch is the real gem of the three.

Sounds like you really lucked out on a sweat deal.

Enjoy the golf....take plenty of bug spray and stay away from the snakes and gators!!!

Very true... I've played all three and the only one I would make a point to play again was the Witch... the other two were OK, but nothing amazing. The Witch was worth playing again for sure.

I'm not sure what you are saying... do you mean to say that Dub was wrong about them being of the same complex? If so, then yes, they are in different places, but they are owned by the same group... Magical Golf or whatever it is. The Wizard and Man O War are right next to eachother while the Witch is a bit out of the way. Either way, I think he just meant that they were all of the same company/ownership.

Yup....and package billing of the three is fairly standard.

All I was saying is that the witch is a good ride from the other 2.They are all owned by the same concern.

I just played this course a few weeks ago. What time is your tee time? The reason is that they do not give rain checks on afternoon tee times. I found it the hard way as I had to play nine holes in the pouring rain.

Big_M-did you see that gator on the par 3 by chance?

It's a beautiful course with really nice greens and plenty of bunkers. A good test of shot making.

If you want to play another course with good value, check out World Tour.. It's 27 holes for $79, cart included. Every hole is a replica of a famous hole, including Amen Corner. Lots of fun.

Actually Golf_Junkie, I had my eye on World Tour from the jump. I'm finding out that the regular rates at the Witch may make me decide to pass on the passes after all. My reason being, I can probably only fit two rounds in anyway. The owner of the tickets is currently checking to see if cart fee is included. If it is not, and I only play twice in the evenings, I haven't really saved anything.

From what all you guys have said, I definately want to make a trip to the Witch for one round. Thanks for the heads up on the no rainchecks in the evening, though I'll probably risk it anyway. Then I think I may try to get on at World Tour or just another value course like the Witch.

One evening/night I may run down to the Midway Par 3 where they have "situational" holes. Its only 5 blocks or so from where we are staying at Compass Cove.

I played there a couple of years ago, and I really liked it, it was a challenge, but with good shot making the course was a lot of fun

The one I saw was on a par 4, but I can't remember for the life of me which one. I DO remember the ranger telling us we just missed a 9 footer on one of the par 3's, apparently he had been sunning himself all day until the group ahead of us went through. The little one we saw was down near a pond behind and left of one of the greens... my ball was down in the hazzard and I saw my ball first then as I stepped down I noticed the 3-foot gator eyeing me. I waited for my brother in law to come over so he could see it... then I jumped around enough so he would go away and I could play my shot while Tony kept an eye pealed for me.

Stacey; If you want a nice test in the afternoon try the Avocet at Wild Wing they should have a afternoon price that should be OK.

Haha. Did you get a little scared? The one I saw was on a par 3, about 190 yards. It had a pond on the left and a bunker on the right with water in front. I landed in the bunker, chipped on and when I walked to the ball, there was the gator. Nearly had a heart attack. He splashed back into the pond. I did not bother to finish putting and drove to the next tee faster than an 18 year old running from the cops.
