live in dallas, play at cedar crest, tenison mostly. sometimes mansfield nat'l, grand oaks, tierra verde, and tangle ridge.

grew up playing in tyler at hollytree cc.

in college played the A&M; course, and bryan golf club. not many good public courses in that area. all the good ones are private, and ridiculously expensive.

overall, i think the hill country and east texas(houston included) have the best courses.

I used to work out at Oakhurst. Played with all the marshall's, and the young guy in the pro shop. Grant can hit the ball a long freaking ways. My aunt lives in Canton, and if I get up around that way, i'll revive this thread, and we can play oak hurst or twin lakes. Twin lakes is quite a bit nicer than oak hurst.

twin lakes... i've heard good things about that course. i'm supposed to go out there with a buddy soon and play it. i also hear links at lands end is a beauty as well. but, my favorite public course in the tyler area has to be pine dunes.

links is very nice as well. Both lake fork courses are. The other one has really tight fairways. Twin lakes is really nice though.

I Live in Rockwall (just east of Dallas) but I work in Plano. I usually play this course in Wylie call WoodBridge, it's a pretty tough course. When I play with some guys from work we play either Chase Oaks, Plantation, Pecan Hollow, or Ridgeview Ranch. Sometimes play Tenison in Dallas.

Lubbock golfer also. Shadow Hills but will probably play Meadowbrook when I need a change. Just started playing again after a 5 year layoff.

Chase Oaks...Blackjack...should be rated 147, not 127.

You Sir, have a penchant for PAIN!! Once was enough for me...not going to make that mistake again!

Corpus Christi here. Only two places in Corpus for quality golf... First is Corpus Christi Country Club and the second is Newport Dunes (it's actually in Port Aransas).

I'm a bit new to the area, so if anybody looking for a player, let me know.

I haven't played that one yet. I've only played the 9 hole course there and it's not too bad. I heard blackjack was tough though. Not a lot of room for error.

    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
    • Heck, to add on to that, point out to them that a scratch golfer has to shoot 68 to stay a scratch golfer, and their course handicap is +4!
    • Interesting take on Pacific versus Bandon Dunes. I tend to prefer Pacific but it's a little splitting hairs. All four are great courses and really fun to play! My order is: Old Mac Bandon Trails Pacific Dunes Bandon Dunes Though if a little cheating is allowed I'd give Trails a T1. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
    • Eh... what's he going to say? "Hey, I bought a new driver. It's 10 yards shorter and I hit twice as many OB now." Does he have any data to back up his claim? Or is he just going by what he saw at his fitting?  I've been using either Shotscope or Arccos since 2018 and if there's one thing I've learned is that it's the archer not the arrow. When I'm hitting the driver well, it goes far and straight. When I'm a mess, it's a mess.  If you were properly fit for a driver in the last (dare I say 10 years) 5 years for sure. I'd be surprised if you can get more than a couple of yards out of it by getting a new one. The COR rule has been 0.83 since 1998, with widespread and standardized enforcement since 2003. Obviously, the engineers can still optimize spin and launch and shaft flex and/or kick point. So there are things that can be done. But I believe the days of 10 or 15 yard gains are over... unless your current driver is unfit for you. (as @Typhoon92 mentions above.) If you were fit for your epic. You will likely see very little on course performance difference.  Having said that, I get a new driver every 2 or 3 years... Why? Because I like shiny things. So, if you want a new driver, get a new driver.
