Can somebody explain to me the pressing option in a Nassau game? I was playing some friends last weekend in a $2 Nassau in a partners combined score round. We (my partner and I) were down a ton of strokes and decided NOT to press, but through some studious play on the back side caught up and ended up winning the match nassau by 2 strokes.

We played the match that the Losing team could press at the turn and as a result double the value of the last two undecided matches. In other words the total value of the wager started at $6, $2 for the front, $2 for the back, $2 for the total. At the start of the 10th hole, the losing team (the team that lost the front 9 match) could at there discretion double the value of the last two matches increasing the value to $4 for each.

Did I do that wrong? Does the winning team have the option to refuse the press? We played it that the losing team had the choice weather or not to press, and the winning team had NO option to refuse.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

heres how i understand nassau

you play like you said, X amount on the front, X amount on the Back and X amount for whole round. so its already three separate mini games. you can also play dollar birdies or something to make things a little more interesting

but what you did still makes sense too but i always thought of nassau as taking the pressing out of it by making 3 mini games. kinda like automatic press in a way..

Exactly right. A basic Nassau is front/back/total, either stroke or match play. You can throw in additional junk and presses if you like, but the Nassau itself is just the 3 bets. A match play Nassau with someone of similar ability (no schtinkin' strokes!) is my favorite game.
