I am thinking my ball flight is too high but I'm not sure if this is causing me to lose distance in my irons; so I am pondering if I need a stiffer shaft and/or a shaft with a high kick point. I am currently playing TM R7XD Irons 2006 model with standard TM R flex Shafts. My 6 Iron Swing speed on launch monitor is 84 MPH and I carry the ball ~150 y

Question #1: If all other variable are constant will I get same distance with highkick point shaft as lowkick point (for example, for example Dynamic Gold vs Dyanmic Gold HL (high launch) with same shaft weight, same fLex/same manufacturer, same swing speed).

Question #2: Does a stiffer shaft provide a lower ball flight if all other variables are constant (For example DG S300 vs DG R300)

Question #3: How much effect would a ball change have in helping me get more penetrating ball flight. I currently am playing bridgeston e6+ ball, which I believe is on the 'hard' side of the spectrum which causes it to launch high as it does not compress on the clubface very much at impact.
I've also played the E7+ which is supposed to provide a lower ball flight but I don't really notice any difference. Any Ball recommendations that might help with this issue?

Any one out there play the Precept Laddie? I found one and played with it for a few holes; seemed like a nice ball and I know they are inexpensive.

Thanks in advance.

just remember, try to change one variable at a time, too see what has the most and proper effect

You really don't need stiff irons with a swing speed and ball carry you mentioned. I think your getting too technical about the kickpoint etc especially as your talking about steel shafts.
Get a lesson or 2 and see what differnce that makes.

Do you know what's cheaper than expirimenting with shafts? Expirimenting with used blades.

My uneducated guess says you need less of this: and more of this:

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

Good thought by sean that the problem may be in part due to the weighting of the club head itself. I don't know if a switch to some old blades would fix it, but a different club head might get different results.

I think the stock answer would be that a stiffer shaft will probably lower your ball flight, but it doesn't guarantee it. I had S-300 shafts in my old clubs and moved to the X-100. I hit a really high ball before, and still do. I lost some distance at first, but now I am actually a little longer with the new clubs after a full year with them. The one thing I am able to do is hit a low trajectory ball easier now than I did before.

As always, try and find some demo clubs or borrow a friends club with stiffer shafts and see what happens. It may be that your swing just results in a high trajectory shot. Nothing wrong with that at all, as long as you are still able to maintain your distance.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
