I will be getting a new set of irons for next year, and am currently trying to decide between a few low cost options.

Initially I was looking at building a set (3-PW) from Snake Eyes.
Snake Eyes 675XC : $26.97 = $215.76
True Temper DG S300 : $15.25 = $122
Golf Pride Tour Velvet : $3.19 = $25.52

I could reuse my current DG S300's and save $122, but would be unable to keep my current clubs together, or give them to a friend. Would be re-gripping anyways, so the cheapest before shipping this would be is $241.28.

I've been looking at Bridgestone's J36 Pocket Cavity for a little bit, and the deals on eBay are really good . I could get a 3-PW set with Rifle 6.0's for between $259 and $299.

Both these sets are forged irons, the Snake Eyes are a larger head, with a larger sole, more of a GI club. The J36's are their most forgiving irons, but still have more of a players iron profile. I'm not sure which I would prefer, and doubt I could find either of these clubs to test anywhere locally.

My questions:
What would you do?
What spec Rifle shaft is equal to TT DG S300's?
Am I only paying extra for a brand name?
What are the pro's + con's of a larger GI iron head?
Any other thought, or clubs I should be considering?

Thanks in advance!

Why not get the 600XC for $5.96 per head? More suited to your handicap i supppose its a no brainer.

Unfortunatley, as of right now, only the 3 and 4 iron head are available through golfsmith. I sent them a note asking if these clubs will be available again, and if this price will carry over till then, or if I can get a rain check.

I thought the 600's were all $19 a head (the C's and B's are, XC's are dirt cheap). Great deal, thanks for pointing it out. I like saving money, but was planning on spending around $200 - $300, so my original question still applies. Also, I'd like to think the 675XC's are better than the 600's, but for that price, if I can get them, I'll buy them.

I'll post the info I get from a rep about that whenever I hear back. in the meantime, they do have a full selection for the 675B and 675C (as well as XC). Snake Eyes 675B Snake Eyes 675C

Try looking on pureimpactgolf.com . I know they carry nakashima, golfsmith, snake eyes etc. Its a realy cool site where you can literally build your clubs the way you want if they are those brands.

A Golfsmith rep responded to my request about the Snake Eyes 600 series.

"Unfortunately, the item is no longer available and is discontinued. We have checked all of our shipping locations and we are sold out. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

Diamond Tourhas forged blades for a good price.

I think I'll either be getting those or the 675c's formy next set in a few years. My iron play has ridiculously gotten better since I brought my blades back into play. Today I actually had greens in regulations and parred two Par 5s, which I haven't done in a long time.

A friend at my home course just got the Bridgestones a few weeks back. They have Project X 6.0 shafts; I hit them on the range and they were great.

If you are thinking of getting them, check them out on ebay. He got them for like $350 shipped, and I checked them over, they are not knock offs.

I looked them up on ebay an they are available new for a lot cheaper than the ones at Golfsmith on your link.

    • Day 74: foam ball work tonight. Worked on slowing down and getting the feels to get the shoulder down.
    • I was recently told that Turning Dtone in New York is a nice overall resort and they’ve they have 3 courses as well as many other amenities. A quick TST search turned up older threads with a lot of comments on how difficult the courses are. Does anybody know if they have “relaxed” the courses over the years or are they still hard as far as resort courses go? I do not mind a hard course but my wife can get frustrated but if good scenery and good course conditions she may still enjoy a hard course. What are your thoughts on their courses and the resort in general? Edited for typos
    • Day 615 - 2026-06-09 Officiated in the morning and then did some Skillest lessons before getting some work in during a really long seventh inning (I think).
    • Day 280 6-9 low point control, practice missing towel. No ball, started to get the hang of hitting way in front of towel. Going to keep at it.
    • Day 9 - (9 Jun 26) - Weekly nine hole session with my good friend, I played again from one set of tees up from my usual (set up the bag 4h, 6i-Pw, Gw, Lw) to focus more on iron play in the approaches (esp longer ones on the 4's and 5's).  Used the hybrid for tee shots only, had to play irons in from there on....made for a great work on course management and dealing with iron shots I normally don't see.  Key focus was on keeping ball in play, playing to distances that set up for either GiR or nGiR's.  Played a split nine (5 on the front, 4 on the back - the turn works nicely as both nines turn and run parallel coming in - easy to jump from 5 to 15 (especially when the course is not busy)).  Worked with my friend on his course management skills - offering thoughts as a "caddie" might and helping him to confidently choose and execute the shot he was seeing.
