Just after some input , what will open shoulders cause? When i say open i mean the shoulders pointing left of target as i am lined up. The way i see it it will cause a slice but not 100% sure

It will cause a slice or a fade,or in some cases pending on swing type a low pull to the left.

The way they point at setup shouldn't matter. You say that they point "left of target" so it sounds like your feet, hips, club face, etc.. are allowing to define a correct target line. As long as you get into the correct impact position it doesn't matter what you looked like before that. IMO

I would guess that if it f-ed you up at all it would be that it made it hard to aim at all having your different lines out of parallel.

But, it's much easier to have your shoulders pointed at the target to begin with that have to adjust mid-swing. You don't need your grip to be right before you swing, so long as you adjust it mid-swing to a propper grip?

For me, the open shoulders (which was a thing I worked on during my last lesson) caused me to drop the club way inside to compensate for it. Basically, I was aligned left with my shoulders (not my feet) and my brain had a problem with swinging that direction since it wouldn't go the right way. (I also think on my takeaway I started the club on the shoulder line resulting in an outside-in swing.) So, I unconsciously swung from the inside to hit the ball on the right line. I had a reverse-C position and my misses were generally dead pushes. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but that's what open shoulders did to me.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
