I am a good player, about a 3-4 hcap, and my miss is left. But i find that when i do miss left, its because i come over the top, the typical slicer's miss. I can tell this by seeing my divot. When i focus on going inside-out it goes right, except when i extend my arms and roll my wrists (which i should so anyway, but its hard to train your wrists muscle memory).

Anyway, this seems backwards, i think that when i go over the top, i try to correct a slice by using the wrists, but this results in a nasty pull hook. and when i go in-to-out, the wrists stay open unless i concentrate on fixing it.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

I don't think I can even think about what my wrists do. It seems to me they react to my swing, not the other way around. I do make two slightly different moves involving the wrists when during the backswing. If I want a higher flight and a little cut, I cup my left wrist slightly. Otherwise I keep if flat and typically there is a little draw. I don't have the timing or skill to do deliberate things with them on the downswing.

On a hold off shot, it is a matter of how the arms and body move more than doing something with my hands -- at least for me.

Yup.....I sure do.

I tend to take too long of a backswing.....especially with driver. My hands get up too high and then everything comes over.

I've been working on this and have minimized the occurences.

Yep same thing here. I either drive the tee in the ground with the ball or hit a pull hook. It's just the last couple weeks that I've been doing this. If I flatten my swing a bit it seems to fix the problem....for me anyway.

I have the same problem. I have had a very upright swing my entire life and struggled with consistency. I hit a natural fade, and when I miss it is a pull left. This year Ive improved greatly (mostly due to a lot of practice) Ive been working one thing that has been helping me out with the pull / pull hook. 1. I practice keeping my elbows in close to my body during the backswing and then concentrate on my right elbow staying attached to my body on the downswing (Im a righty). This prevents my arms from separating from my body, which in turn, keeps my arms from going over the top and thus, no pull.

Thats sort of like what i do. I keep my arms close to my body then extend when i get to the ball. This seems to set my wrists and swing plane in the correct position.

Jamo,

I took a lesson Thursday, and I found the same problem Dub has: Too long a backswing, right hand takes over, creating varied over the top adventures.

End result: Pull or slice.

If I'm playing well for a couple of rounds straight, it seems I get overenthusiastic, start reaching, and have an ugly day.

But, from your HI, it appears you have less a problem than I do.

Focus, connect and follow through!
