The best ever Golf movie thread got me thinking.
Have any of you ever had a Tin Cup moment a la Kevin Costner at the end of that movie..
I would be fairly stubborn and would always nearly play from the same spot I hit the ball into the water from rather than go to the drop zone...
Same if I am teeing off,I'd always reload and take my drop shot from the tee box rather than a drop zone
Maybe thats why my handicapp is so high

Yup.....I certainly have.

I nearly duplicated his score one time, too.

I was playing with some buddies on my home course. We had three groups there that day and were having fun warming up and putting at the practice green.

The talk soon came down to our island hole par 3. The guys wanted to know how we liked it (2 of us were members who play it often). At the time I was having a successful trend on the hole.

We go about our rounds and I was scoring pretty decent. At the time I was playing to a 17-18 hcp. My round was looking like I'd card something in the mid 80's....certainly a good round for me.

We pull up to the hole (6th hole of 2nd nine) and everyone noted the tee box placement was against the far tree line...making it play in the 175 yrd range. Absurd for an island green...but fair in the sense that we all had to play it.

I had honors and hit a nice high 5 iron that appeared to be tracking dead on the pin....it peaked and dropped....dead into the water. I shrugged and stepped off the box and let the other 3 tee-off.

One hit the green, one stopped on the right rough and one was wet...with me. He simply pulled another ball out of his pocket and hit the same stick and stuck it nicely on the center of the green.

I'd planned on advancing to the drop area and hitting SW for my 3rd stroke. Seeing this triggered the "dumb-arse" switch in my golfing mind.

I stepped back up to the tee and hit 5 iron again.....again it soared nicely....again it peaked......and again it dropped short into the water.

I pulled out another ball (I'd reloaded while the other's hit...always keep 2 in my pocket) and did it again.

I stepped off the tee box....got out my 4 hybrid and two more balls. The guys were dead silent.

It was hilarious...only nobody was saying anything....dead silence. I suppose they were waiting for me to explode.

I stiped the 4 hybrid nicely and it hit dead center of the green. I pumped my fist and smiled...pleased to have the "moral" victory. Everyone got a good laugh.

I two putted for a tidy 9 on the card.

This ended my positive trend on the island hole. I fear that it will remain so forever. I've never been tempted to re-tee again. The drop zone and I are like old friends.

Yep...almost like the movie, but didn't hole out. I was playing the 12th hole (par 5, 480 yds), hit a good drive 275 yds and had 205 left. The fairway sloped from left to right and there was water all the way from 100 yds out to past the green on the right. I didn't allow enough for the left to right slice of the fairway and my ball barely missed the green and landed in the water to the right of the green.

I had just gone bogey/double to start the back 9 and was a little steamed. I decided to drop another one right there and took another shot, this time, adding another 10 yds to the left to account for the fairway slope.

Well, I hit basically the exact same shot (how often can you do that? ) and this time it landed just over a bunker on the right side of the green and bounced down towards the hole and settled 4 feet away from the pin. The best part was waiting for everyone else to finish and then holing out the 4-footer (putt broke at least 10 inches, left to right slider) to save the par. Went on play the last 7 holes in 1 under par, for a back 9 of +2 and an overall score of 81!

My bag got heavy so I put it in my car after the turn and played the entire back with just a 7-iron. LOL I wish.

#15 at a course I grew up on. To the left is a stream, marked with red stakes. Every time I hit one into the water, I would tee it back up and hit again instead of just taking the yardage and drop. I dont know why I just couldnt force myself not to.

Why tee another one up when you can cut off half the distance to the hole?

I had an opponent in a high school match do this once. I was a junior and he was a senior on the other team. I was having the round of my life (ended up with a 32 on 9, so -4... this was in 2002 and I hadn't shot another under par 9 until this year!) and he was pissed that I was beating him. On #8 he hit 3 straight OB after I hit the fairway and he said "There's no way YOU'RE outdriving me!" It was pretty humorous once our scores posted, hehe.
