I have in my bag a Taylormade R7 TP 3 and 4 iron, the 3 never gets used and the 4 rarely so I'm considering upgrading to a rescue. Now I am very brand loyal and like the look and styling of Taylormade stuff so would prefer the older R7 or more up-to-date Burner but I'm confused as to which one to get. My understanding of the rescue is thta it is a bit of an 'all-rounder' so is there any entry-level club? I suppose in time I could buy a more lofted or less lofted club if the need arises.

I have the #4 07 Burner rescue. It is a 22* loft. I bought it since I do not have a 3 iron in my set. I love the rescue. It took me about two times at the range to get the feel for the club, but now I am hooked. Some people like them and some people hate them!!

I have an old Hippo steel hybrid but the head is the size of my 3-wood, TM's heads are so small. I've read you hit like an iron, not a wood - correct?

Ya you are very correct buy hitting it as an iron it will get more height and spin. But dont be fooled because although the 3 rescue/hybrid is the same loft as the 3 iron it will go farther because it is a wood. Hence a 4 Rescue would be around a 3 iron, Get Me?

Here's an idea for you: a TaylorMade V-Steel 7 wood, 21*. It has a nice clean look at address and really gets the ball up in the air nicely. Nice club for those long par 3s, too.

I had problems at first because I was swinging it like a wood. I soon realized that I should just hit it like a regular iron. After that, the club has worked out really well for me.

As you can see from my sig I have bought into rescues as iron replacements, I double up on the six so I have a reasonably long iron for lies that would scratch up the bottom of my hybrids. I love the small heads and very solid feel of the TM hybrids, oddly enough the #3 is the smallest head!
I am also very brand loyal and see TM as the perfect balance of quality, technology and affordability.

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
    • Day 550 - 2026-04-04 Practiced in the sim at a club for awhile. Did a SW ladder and practiced for awhile with my 7I.
