Doesn't it always seem like as soon as you get one thing seemingly straightened out, another part of your game falls apart?

I've had one of the best ball striking years of my life but I don't think I've made a putt all year long outside of 4 feet. A couple weeks ago I had a putting epiphany and have since been putting a lot better.

Now, all of a sudden my ball striking has went down the toilet for some reason. All this week I've just felt like I have no idea where my ball is going. Golf just amazes me sometimes that you think you fix one thing and then the other thing that has been working ceases to work. Gotta love this game.

Just in time to play the most difficult course in the state tomorrow in Valhalla. Maybe my game will come around on the range tomorrow before we tee off. lol

that is really funny as I said the same thing to a gentleman at the range today... though you must be doing something right with a handicap like that.

Couldn't agree more. The only part of my game that was killing me all summer was putting. 2-3 putt every hole. Ball striking was great and hitting my driver off the tee exceptionally well.

Worked very hard on my putting throughout September and have significantly improved. But....now I've developed a nasty slice off the tee with my driver and 3W. I've never had much of a problem with slicing - but now I'm doing it 75% of the time! Frustrating!

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

Well, it's all relative I guess. My bad shots would probably look great to a bogey golfer.

I'm not out there chunking or topping the ball by any means, it's just not going where I'd like it too as consistently as I would like it too. My body just feels out of sync. It happens to everyone I guess, it's just aggravating that it happens as soon as you think you've figured the game out.

At my level, the same phenom manifests as...

Wedges, short irons, middle irons, hybrids/woods, driver. Pick two.

Currently, short irons and wedges are working pretty well. Before that adjustment, it was driver and wedges. For a while before that it was middle irons and my 3 wood. One day on the course I had to concede that only one club in my bag was hittable and I took on pretty much the entire course with a 5 iron.

The other day, without forewarning, my chips and pitches went to hell.

Maddening game, probably one of the more addictive aspects.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

think we all go thru this. I am golf two ways

1. woods, short game hot / irons horrible

2. irons hot / woods, putting horrible

never can get the two to mesh. but i keep in my mind that ONE day, just ONE day. both will mesh and i will have killer round!

Classic leaky boat...us higher handicaps completely understand. For me it's always between driver and putter. One or the other is on, but never both.

Yep. Luckily I've had my ONE day. I just keep hoping I have two or three more. In 22 years of playing I've had a lot good rounds, but only one where every aspect of my game was clicking.

    • I’m glad the USGA booted some of the hecklers. It’s getting out of hand. I wish the networks wouldn’t mic the crowd to give those idiots a platform.
    • New member here, and I have decided to upgrade my clubs. I have been playing for a long time but these last 10 years I have had to put four kids through college. So I've played a few rounds a year and some years have not played at all. I am currently playing Titleist 716 AP2's with Rifle 6.5 steel shafts and Winn grips. I used to hit my 7 iron around 165 yds until just 5 years ago. I turned 62 this year and noticed I can barely get my 7 iron to 145 yds. I went for a fitting to try out some new player distance irons. I don't think I need game improvement irons because I'm pretty straight and rarely try to work a ball (if I'm working a ball, then I most definetely did something wrong to get there). I tried a bunch of irons (Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, Taylormade, Srixon, Ping, and Titleist) and I kept coming back to the Ping and Titleist. They just felt right and really looked good when lining up a shot. The Ping, by far, went the longest of all the irons. The Titleist was a close second in distance. Both felt buttery smooth through impact. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these irons. I was getting 160 yds with a nice smooth swing (81 mph swing speed). I know I'm asking a lot of my clubs but my last fitting was 27 years ago and I ended up with some Cleveland TA3's or TA2's forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 (swing speed 87 mph). I really love the feel of my AP2's and the place I'm going to purchase from is going to make a 7 iron in both Ping and Titleist for me to test on real grass. I'm pretty certain it's going to be either one. They're both identical in price for a set of 5-PW. I'm going to forego a 4 iron and get another 4 hybrid to go along with my 3 hybrid. Any and all replies are welcome.
    • Day 47, June 22.  After work today, I spent 20 minutes in my indoor practice room, hitting about as many balls.  Slow, as slow as I could, 6-iron swings, same priority piece as the past month.
    • Day 291 6-22 full, faster swings, focusing on low point, missing towel. Recorded some face on and dtl. Practicing full speed changes is something I wasn't doing enough.
    • Day 2 (22 Jun 26) - used the clip the tee drill today - focused on picking the tee and then collecting the divot.  Hit a few hard foam balls later in the session.
