I want to resurrect my old bag for my son so I have bought a R7 460 and R7 #3 FW. They came with the stock 14oz and 2oz weights. I love my Burner which is SO light so I have taken the 14oz out of the driver and put it with the other one in the #3, leaving the driver with both 2oz weights. The driver feels better and I would think the #3 will now make a fine fairway AND rescue with that much weight. These will both be slightly draw biased now. I guess what I am wondering is which club got the better end of the deal. Would you make a club heavier or lighter if you had the chance?

All depends on how you like your clubs to feel and where you're losing strokes. As a general rule, lighter clubs translate to higher swing speed and more distance. Heavier clubs are harder to swing fast, but easier to control for more accuracy. Of course there are exceptions: strong, fast swingers playing ultralight clubs, etc...

Anyways, if you can control a heavier club and still get appreciable distance out of it, that's the route I'd take. If you lose significant distance then I'd back off the weight a bit. Come to think of it, if you put a bunch of weight in the head, you could feasibly overload the shaft if you have a quick tempo, thus causing you to spray shots all over.

AH so the #3 is a reg flex and the 460 is stiff, I should put the heavy weights in the 460 to "soften" the flex?

i would make a club heavier but i would do it proportionally. like say i went from a 4g wiegh to a 10 g weight, i would make every weight in that club 2 1/2 times heavier to keep the club ballanced

In "Golf My Way," Jack Nicklaus talked about heavier swing weight and fatigue.

Heavier clubs may give you more control, but they also tire you out more quickly. He said this would primarily be a problem with competition amateurs who might have to play 36 holes a day in match play tourneys, or pros who do an occasional match-play. It could also be a factor in a playoff situation.

Higher swing weights would probably contribute to fatigue if you had heavy throughout your set. Don't know if a heavy driver alone would do it.

This is an interesting thread. We'll see what else pops up.

I moved both 14s to the driver. I think it "worked" the stiff shaft much better. I was able to tee off with both my '07 Burner and the heavy R7 460 four times today. Three times the balls were within feet of each other. The R7 460 felt heavy and short and sounds very different from the Burner, but they sure seemed to hit the same. I think these clubs have the same face technology.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
