Hi everyone,

I was looking to gain respective comments regarding comments by spectators at events in the golfing world.

Having read a biography from a leading Euro golfer about their time in the U.S and seeing for myself comments made by US spectators ("Gerr-in-da-hole" screamed from the tee at 600 yard par 5's) it has me wondering about thoughts surrounding said specatators that may be more vocal than others.

I am not claiming any moral high ground here as the Euro tour probably has its share of halfwits also, however every time I hear "Gerr-in-da-hole" I cringe, it is a call that is up there with a mobile phone going off, it is unneccessary, uninvited and undeserving of a sport that demands its participators to uphold the aspects of society that are slowly being eroded over time.

What are the thoughts of the other posters on here? Am I being over dramatic? Am I being pretentious? (God, what will my mother think of me?) or am I making a statement that fellow posters agree with?

I think that a majority of this site agrees with you on the "get in the hole" crap. I can see if Tiger or whoever is chipping from 100 yards, but not off the tee box!

Hi everyone,

I've been to golfing tourneys on both sides of the pond and feel that golf standards have eroded everywhere. Part of it maybe is that as golf goes more mainstream it attracts more fans which don't know what is required.

Ironically, I see better behavior at lesser events. The gallery at a Nationwide tour event is much more educated than the gallery at a PGA tour event.

I have no problem if the "go in the hole" people are escorted off site by guys in black suits and shades and somehow disappear forever.

I heard one guy at the President's Cup today yell "Get in the bunker" right after contact on one of Y.E. Yang's shots in the afternoon matches . Absolutely classless; idiots like that should be escorted out IMO.

Bourgeoisie + Proletariat + Beer = Not a very good golf gallery.

All I can say(rather chant) is..."Take your hat off, take your hat off, take your hat off!" I remember sitting at home watching that happen earlier this year and think.."Man, they're having a good time, but it's kind of a $#!tshow compared to what golf was a couple years ago."

I'm not making any social statements here, because I'm not what you would call upper class, but if this whole recession business stays around, the worse part of the galleries will dry up.

As a rule I find anything shouted at a golf event, other than a cheer, annoying and generally moronic.
