I have a 85-90 mph swingspeed and drive the ball apprx 215 yds. I bought a 9.5 degree regular shaft r9, set up L with heavy weight on left side ( promoting a draw)

I hit the ball straight with slight fade, but can't get the ball into air and have very little carry, but lots of ground roll.

My old R7 draw with reg shaft 10.5 had a much better ball flight.

Should I look to trade the 9.5 head for a 10.5 or change r9 shaft? And if change shaft, what would be a good recommendation?

Thanks

What kind of shaft is it? Trajectory on shafts is affected by its "kick-point" location. A high kick-point shaft promotes a lower trajectory and a low kick-point produces a higher trajectory. It could also be the loft on the clubhead. However, before changing anything--make sure you're not doing something that produces a low ball flight at the point of contact. Things to check for are to assure your hands aren't ahead of the ball at contact--promotes a low trajectory. Hands should be even with clubhead at contact to produce an ideal trajectory. Second, ball placement in your stance--it's ok to move the ball up in your stance. Ideal placement is just inside the left foot (righty).

try setting it to nutral upright, then setting it a bit closed , the line next to NU. This should add to some loft to the club apparently and setting it closed a bit should look more like you used to, I havn't fooled around with it much myself.

Also, not to be the barrer of bad news, but I believe TM doesn't sell R9 shaft, because they're "intentions were not for the R9 to be a shaft swaping club".

I have an extra tm adjustable shaft tip. Bought it on eBay and can have extra shafts set up with grip ready to bolt in. I will try adjusting setup to upright position to get more height. I really think a shaft more suited to my swing would be better than adjusting my swing when I hit the r7 nicely. Wish I hadn't sold it before buying this r9

Your last post answered my first question. What's wrong with having 2 dirvers? You can pick up a good cheap 10.5 degree - like a 2003 vintage Nickent - 9.5* seems kind of low lofted for a ss < 100 mph.

Personally, I'd use a 3-wood and call it a day, but it sounds like you know what you're doing (i.e. you're on the right path).

if you are only carrying the ball 215 I would reccomend a 10.5 driver. Then once your swing speed increases, you could buy a 9.5 driver again

Before you go out and change equipment have you tried making sure that your ball position is near the inside of your front foot? also try teeing up the ball slightly higher and the ball forward and finally check you swing to see if you are taking the club back on an more upright swing path on your take away. I also have aim left and slightly open the club face to increase the height of the ball flight.

Some might consider this adjusting your swing for your equipment but I look at this as an opportunity to learn more about control of your ball flight that you can make on all your clubs with a few adjustments, beside it worth a try before you go out and change equipment and spend more money.
