I plan on getting a set of new irons within the coming months as my Pings are 13 years old and were fitted to a person who is 6'2" and I am maybe 5'9". I have been looking at anything forged. I really like the Nike CCi's and they are in my price range but I get the feeling those are out of my league. Please confirm this and tell me why. I have also looked at Bridgestone and MacGregor Combo sets with blades in 9-PW and the rest more forgiving irons. Is this a path I want to go? Any clubs you can recommend would be great. Again, I want forged irons and I am not stuck on those 2 companies at all. I really like the CCi's but probably need something more forgiving. Give me all the advice and help you can please.

Thanks guys,
-Bauer

Id take a look at gigagolf.com , i game the irons in my sig from them, their fairly cheap, fitted to your needs, and have great customer service with a pretty good range of clubs for you. they also have a lot of reviews on all the clubs for you to make a good choice.

Hey someone from Seattle too! Anyways... Those Adams sound like some good clubs. I do like sets that look more plain however. And possibly a year or 2 older set that I could get for about 100 less than those Adams. What is the benefit of forged and do I want to pursue getting forged irons?

i got the titleist blend set and there so nice. there so hard to miss hit. if you have a decent swing they will go strait, you will lose distance but you will be so accurate.
look into titleist ZB, nike pro combo, titleist 735.

Mizuno is forged and will let you customize your order any way you want. I went with four MP52's and four MP62's. You could do something along those lines

Those options sound great I will definitely have to go hit those. My biggest concern however is if the Titleists and Mizunos are outside of my skill range. I think they are definitely outside of my price range. How are the Srixon i-302 and i-701's? They seem to be closer to my price range 300-400 and the game improvement style. Also, I was looking at these MacGregors... http://www.golfsmith.com/products/MG..._Iron_Set_3-PW

Mizuno and Ping both make forged clubs. Both get great feedback from players that use them. Might want to check into those two. Heard Mizuno has one of the best forging processes in golf clubs.

both of those irons (blades, & muscle backs) are meant for the better player who is looking to shape shots and controlling the ball.. if your wanting forgiveness that wouldnt be the first choice.

Srixon I-701 is a forged cavity back so you should get good feel and forgiveness. Hard to find any Srixon products in Seattle though. Last year's Adams A4 is forged and comes with two hybrids. The set I use (Bridgestone GC.Mid) is not forged but has pretty good feel and forgiveness and you can get it new on ebay for $200.

I'm also looking at the combo sets - both Titleist, Bridgestone, and Nike.

I have recently taken the step of aiming for the middle of the green and trying to work the ball toward the pin with the short irons. It really changes the game and makes it a lot more fun. Especially when you pull it off!

Unfortunately, I still need a bit of help on the long irons. It might be as much mental as anything but I don't hit my 3 or 4 as well as I think I should. I hit my 5 iron as well and as far as either of those two clubs. Haven't really wrapped myself around a hybrid yet either.

I want to upgrade my irons this off season. I've been playing a set of Titleist knock offs for about 12 years and it's time. After several years of limited play, I re-committed to the game this year and I feel I've made a couple breakthroughs.

The combo sets seem like the perfect mix for me. The problem is, I can't find any in the area to demo. I've called all around and nobody has any of these so I'm relying on reviews and forums.

Cody, when you say you'll lose distance, what is that compared to and how much? I normally hit a 7 a comfortable 150 with a high ball flight. Too high I believe, which is something else I need to address with a new set.

Any input is appreciated.

Nike CCis are really nice. I loved the way they felt way better than a few other forged clubs I tried (nike Vr forged split cavity, hogan apex edge).

Also put the AP1s on your radar, they are incredible! I guess I like them because the ball comes off the face so hot and its hard to misshit but I like the feedback if I do really miss it. Doesnt punish on mishits either. I think they are bent strong and thats why I really hit them, but I prefer that anyway confidence wise.

As far as I know, PING does not make any forged irons. I have Mizuno MX-950. They're a combo set in the sense that they have hybrids (3 and 4), hybrid irons (5, 6, and 7) and regular irons (8, 9 and PW). They're forged and their feel on impact is extraordinary, specially the short irons. You can get them for $300-$500 depending on where you get them from, and they can be adjusted to your specs at Mizuno.

Also the Srixons I701 and the Bridgestones J36 are very good iron sets. You wouldn't go wrong with any of these.

thats not what he means by blend set. he means 3,4,5 are players cavity back then 6,7 are less cavity with a thinner top line then 8,9,P are muscle back blades.
