So I went to the range today to work on my pre-ball ground chunking and arrived at the following conclusions about my swing and what I needed to correct.

Source of chunk: swinging too shallow/swinging at the ball instead of through it. When I focused on having a good "golf pose," I started making divots after the ball instead.

I also noticed these two things:
Too much backswing = hook left. So I didn't go back as far and started hitting much straighter shots.
Bent left arm = slice. Keeping my left arm straight through impact helped keep the ball on a straighter driver trajectory.

Are these diagnoses reasonable or am I just employing more band-aids?

Your bent left arm= slice seems reasonable, as that has been my problem in the past. I would not turn my shoulders enough and instead and bend my left arm too much, leaving the clubface open on my downswing.

Ideally the left and right elbows should feel like they stay close together on the backswing, even though the right arm folds in.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

A balanced follow through and finish definitely help with better contact. Your left arm should stay straight (but not tense) with your right elbow 'attached' to your body.

Your pull left is probably caused by your rt arm disconnecting from your body forcing your club over the top and subsequently pulling the ball.
