Hit it at the PGA stupid store today and really liked it...I'm looking for a new driver (because I love spending money needlessly and I blame the 8 lost balls off of the tee in my last round off of my stupid driver...Cant be my swing of course ). The point is this...Has anyone hit this driver? What I'm looking for is forgiveness, and a deeper face.

I hit the ADAMS and the King Cobra while I was there, but they didnt quite hold up as good as the Callaway.

dont buy one. i hate myne it goes like 1.3 yards including roll. i lost litterally 30 yards. it sucks, i hit my fairway wood farther than my driver consistantly (this is new with my old driver i was 50 yards longer that my fairway wood). i just ordered an r9 tp because i hit my 17* fw wood about 270 so i figure il hit the driver far also

Man, not to start something in this guys thread, but i just cant belive anything you say.

-you, a 1.3, have lost 30 yards over your prior driver. -you hit your prior driver 50 yards further than your 4 wood, so your prior driver was at something like 320.. -that would mean even if you lost 30 yards, your still hitting a driver 290. so, really, why did you change drivers if you were hitting it 320? Im not as low a handicap as you, but most drivers work just fine for me, as in they all go about the same distance, just at varying heights and trajectorys, i cant see how someone with a better game than i have loses that much distance with a high end club... But again, i like my FT-9, great club, but not what im lookin for, so if you are lookin to trade, mine is in excellent shape.

I have a ft 5 and I've hit the ft 9 but I didn't see enough difference to warrant spending the money on it. However I do like my ft 5 and in my opinion callaway makes quality woods. These posts are great to get some opinions but at the end of the day the choice is yours. Most people will flame for whatever brand of clubs they game. Good luck with finding a club.

Man, not to start something in this guys thread, but i just cant belive anything you say.

the reason i switched from an x460 tour is because i chunked it and the head snapped off, the shaft broke inside the hossle so i would have to have it drilled out and they dont make my old shaft ne more so i figured i would get a new driver. i actually know many people that have lost lots of distance because of the ft-9.

my home course is very wet all year and this driver hits the ball high, very high. thats what it was designed for, high launch and low spin. i carry the ball the same distance but i get consistantly no role or negative roll. most likely it is because the kick point on my shaft is off but still i have lost distance and it happened the day i got the ft-9. it obviously hasnt affected my scores much but it does affect my birdie percentages because i dont have a wedge into 450 yard holes anymore like i really dont care if you believe me or not, why would i lie about something like that? i dont have anything against callaway, i loved their x460 tour, it would just be stupid to make up something like that. iv just had problems with this driver and know many people that have aswell. by the way, yes i actually do hit the ball consistently over 300 with my long drives being about 330-340 and my off center hits being about 280. now with the ft-9 a good one goes about 275-280 and a miss hit goes about 220. if you read golf digest there is a great article on how once you get below a 10 handycap clubs start to make a real difference in your game.

OK so suggestions? Maybe the new Taylor made R9 or the Ping G15? I just want something forgiving off of the tee with a deeper face than the Wilson Smooth....Im around a 10-12 handicap and my driver swing speed is around 118-122.

#1 would b the r9, not the r9 460 though. that club has such a sold feel and solid ball flight plus you can adjust it to the specification neccessary.

#2 would be the g15. i demoed it and i liked it a lot, it had good ball flight and low spin. same idea with the i15 #3 would be the titleist 909. make sure you look into all the models, d1,2,3,comp because they all suit a different game and all play like completely different drivers. they all go a mile. #4 would be the tm burner tour. its a great club and many low hcps hit this club very well. #5 would be the callaway ft-iq tour, im not a fan of the normal callaway models only the tour models. im also not a fan of the ft-9 or ft-iq but i would go iq over 9 everyday. if you want to wait until next year callaway is coming out with a new ft-9 tour model that is supposed to go farther. and have an all around better design for the "players" of the game.

I hit the Ft tour a couple of days ago, nothing special, still prefer the r9.
The r9 460 is prob the most forgiving driver at the moment.

Let me see Mickelson went to the FT-9 and he hits it 300 plus so you can hit another driver 320-330 but hte FT-9 is to hard to Hit?I have a FT-9 tour 9.5 and love it but I am a old man who only hits it 250 or so.By the way What tour do you play on?

I hit a demo of the FT9 tour w/ the fubuki shaft back when they were first realesed and just loved it. If the that thing didnt cost like $500+ back then i would be gaming it instead of the Titliest i use now. I loved the feel and control i had with it. It sounds great, too.

I tested one out and was only able to drive it 230 max. I persoanlly like the diablo driver alot more than the ft9.

I usually hit 250 with my r9 460.

if you really want to lose distance buy the ft-iq,

ive got an ft-5 and it doesnt go as far as my old cleveland launcher comp, but the ft-5 is a whole lot straighter

If you like the FT9, I would second this post. I was torn between getting the FT9 or FT5. After hitting both and soliciting many opinions on the two, the FT5 makes more sense.

It sounds better, distance was a little better, and, most importantly to me, is half the price of the FT9.

What I Play:

Irons: AP1 4-PW

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
