Drivers that compare to R9tp

Hey there guys, I went and got fitted for some new irons and also a driver. Since I have access to taylormade gear at great prices I had the fitter fit me for an r9.

With my current driver I do tend to really balloon it as my ss is I’d say 105-120 depending on how I go at it. He swapped around heads and shafts etc and we arrived at r9 tp with 8.5 loft and stiff fubuki 63g shaft, he also placed a heavy weight in close to the shaft (think he said this helps square the face at impact as I tend to come in closed. He said this really brought down my spin #'s and the distance I was getting around ~300 with a piercing flight.

I'm curious what drivers/shaft combos I could look at from other manufactures that would give me this sort of setup but perhaps save me some cash. Perhaps a cheaper named shaft with similar characteristics or perhaps a head that’s different.

Well it depends what your local store specializes in.
If it's Ping get custom fitted with ping
if it's Cobra get custom fitted with Coba.

I think you should go with what's best for you.
Not what's cheaper.

I noticed that the callaway FT IQ tour uses the same fubuki shaft that the r9 has, hows the face compare? higher launching , more forgiving? I have heard that the r9 isnt the best for off centre hits.

anyone know of perhaps other shafts that compare to the fubuki?

I might just have to bite the bullet and go with what he recommended just searching some additional options. any info would be great thx.

(UST v2 60gr Stiff) if your SS stays under 110mph If your looking at driver heads for '09' Adams Speedline 9032 Titliest 909comp Callaway FT-9 all 3 have great feel, more so than others (IMO)

Totally agree with what you said on the UST PF V2. UST's AXIVCore shafts are great too, but generally are a little more expensive than the V2. I swapped the V2 in my 3W and fell in love immediately. It feels very stable, and produces a nice mid launch ball flight. It's low torque but with a good feel.

I had the V2 60g stiff and with my SS being 108-116 it was a touch on the soft side. It had 'easy' distance and feel. I should have went with the heavier V2 in a stiff, but I went with the GD Pershing. I love the Pershing, but the v2 might be slightly better

since you said your looking for an older club that might be pretty close to the newer 09 clubs I would go with a PING G10...

Since you said you STILL really Balloon the ball even with a 8.5 degree head AND a pretty stiff shaft the NEWER G15 and Rapture V2 only go down to 9 degree.

I would look for a

PING G10
7.5 Degree
With a STIFF Diamana Blue shaft

You can pick them up for a pretty good price these days and they still perform GREAT IMO.

Could even check out Ebay (make sure you ONLY buy from a company with a TON of reviews and positive feedback IMO).

Well currently i have a tm r540 from years ago with the stiff proforce v2 63g and i rocket it into the air. launch and ball spin are crazy high. Might be the combination of the head and shaft. I do catch it well sometimes but still way to high and im loosing distance. The fitter said that im between stiff and xstiff(tho i wasnt hitting my driver well for fitting, tho did hit em ~300 on solid hits), so recommended the fubuki in stiff. would i notice a big loss of distance if i just go with x if i was close ? How high would i need to average ss to properly load the fubuki.

thanks for any info/suggestions you all have recommended.

p.s. i just noticed the head on my driver is 350 cc damn :S
