and you fail to take advantage of it!!!!

I was playing today and came up on a par 5, # 2 HCP hole. It's a hard dog leg left with water on your left, and then a slight dog leg right. It's a real sucker hole to use a driver with. Even if you do cut the water and land safely, you still won't have a straight shot to the green. A driver really doesn't get you any added distance on this hole. You'd have to be a monster hitter to cut the water and make it there in two.

So I did the smart thing. I used a 3 hybrid to knock it just on the left edge of the fairway before the water. I next hit a perfect 3 wood down the right side. I ended up about 75 yards from the pin in perfect position. All I need to do is pitch it up there and at worst two putt for par.

Well I pull the pitch hard and it ends up in the rough left of the green. I can't get up and down and end up two putting for boggie. BAH!!!!

I do hate that. It's most annoying on short par 4s (400 or less) and I'll hit iron of the tee to leave a bit longer approach shot and I'll over cook it left or something. It's like, so much for playing smart haha.

And yes, I hit my driver much better than my 3 iron, yet I'll play "smart" and use the 3 iron off the tee to set up a nice 7 iron into the green on a short par 4, and I end up pull hooking the 3 iron or hitting it fat and screw myself over....

Now thats playing smart!
