I do not have it, but did get my shot for swine flu 2 days ago. I still have another 12 days to get it before the vaccine kicks in, so hopefully nothing will happen until then.

No H1N1 shot for me, thanks. My doctor and my children's doctor strongly advised all of us to not get it.

That just means he does not have the vacine to give you. Most PCF's are not able to provide the shot as they can't get enough. My dad is a primary care doc and got 300 H1N1 vacines. Problem is, he has nearly 10,000 patients! Of those, what if even 20% wanted the vacine? That means he would have enough to meet about 15% of the demand. I am an ER nurse myself working on Cape Cod. We are seeing more and more positive influenza swabs. By far the majority of physicians will suggest the vacine be taken to any high risk demographic (pregnant women, small children, healthcare workers, compromised health patients, etc..). Read the CDC suggestions and make up your own mind. This vacine is no different than the regular flu shot and if they had worked faster last year, the H1N1 would have just been added to the regular flu shot. Nothing unusual about it. The nasal version is in fact a live virus and more folks are skeptical of it. In fact, my dad sent back the 200 doses he received after reading the study done at Duke.

I work in a healthcare facility that is home to fragile children. Although I never received a vaccine in the past (been here less than a year) I did get both this year. It isn't a requirenment, but if you don't, a mask must be worn at all times. My conscience wouldn't allow me not to get the vaccines. if any of our kids gets this, it surely would be fatal to them.

You can still get the regular flu or h1n1 even with the vaccine though, correct?

What was the reasoning for advising not to get it? Just curious. I've never had a flu shot and won't be getting on this year.

Both my doctor and my children's doctor stated they didn't feel comfortable giving it to anyone due to the rush that was behind getting it out. The doctors are not affiliated with one another, so it was not a concerted effort (at least between the two) to not give my family the shots. They say a lot of people have had very negative reactions to it, and that we don't get to hear about that.

I have a kid in kindergarten and a toddler in preschool. They are high risk to catch anything going around. Knowing this, I think both doctors would have insisted on my kids getting the shots, if not my entire family, if they felt good about it. Instead, my kids got the regular flu shots, which both doctors said are pretty much irrelevant this year, because the H1N1 is what is going around, more so than the common flu. Medical professionals here can second guess the motives of my doctors and perhaps they are right. But there is so much misinformation going around, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DEBATE, and, if I have to choose a side, I prefer not to trust Kathleen Sebilius as I've seen her lie about plenty on TV trying to pass the boy king's health care agenda. My doctor, to my knowledge, has not lied to me.

I see. Like I said, I've never got the flu shot and I don't plan to. I'm not some crazy person that thinks the government is out to kill everyone and this is some plot to eliminate some of the population. But, I don't necessarily trust it either. Everything you read involves thermasol (mercury) and how it's an ingredient in the vaccinations. Some believe it's a contributor to autism while others say there's no proof of that. I don't claim to be a doctor but I know you can get mercury poisoning and it can kill you. I know why they put thermosol in the vaccine, but that to me doesn't make it OK to put in our body. While there is no proof that it causes birth defects and autism, there is nothing proving it doesn't, either. Something has to be causing it. Isn't it something like 1 out of every 100 kids today are autistic? 100 years ago there were virtually no cases of autism. Of course, maybe there were a lot of cases of autism back then and we just didn't know it?

Anyway, this could obviously go on and on forever, but it's my understanding that the flu shot doesn't guarantee you won't get the flu. There are many strains of the flu and if you're exposed to a strain you were not vaccinated for, guess what, you're getting the flu. It would be a lot easier to accept if they said take this shot and you're guaranteed to not get the flu. As it is now you can still get the flu even with the vaccine so I fail to see how it's truly beneficial.

Im not a doctor or a nurse so I can't comment. I'm sure anything is possible. If it reduces the risk and keeps the children safer, it's a no brainer for me.

Had mine in 09'. Not the shot the flu.

It started on Friday after lunch by the time I got home around 4:30 I could only crawl into bed. The following Saturday 8 days later I fianally got out of bed and went outside other than a doctors visit. This was the sickest I have ever been in my life.

If you have any type of existing health problems and you start to feel sick get it checked out, it is not worth the risk.

I hope to avoid it this winter so I may get the shot, it was that bad.

    • Day 5 - extremely long range practice session. Probably one of my best practice sessions ever. Doing things in slow motion is like 5x'ing the effectiveness of the practice. Also, I need these same "falling into lead leg" feels on my wedges. And guess what? Practicing this feel on shorter wedges is ALSO EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE. Combining much slower than full speed practice with shorter (50-90 yard) shot practice was really good. Change the picture on these shorter shots first. Feel like I'm keeping my arms as straight as possible on the backswing while hinging my wrists earlier is an incredible feel. I feel like this is doing stuff to my sequencing somehow? Much less rushed at the top because hinging was done at a reasonable time? One note someone made on my swing thread before I went on a hiatus was regarding this so I played around with it.  Clubs that don't require as much weight/pressure shift feel fantastic (driver/3-wood/hybrid), but that's almost always been the case.

    • Correct, just like relief from a sprinkler head; you can't take a giant stance to put it in play (unless of course that is genuinely how you play). If you take your normal stance and water is visible you get relief, if you have to jump to stand on one foot to get it to show no relief. IF the rule was that if you could get water to show at all, there would have been nowhere on that course anyone could play. I can't comprehend why the ruling has become so controversial, I think Sam called 2 officials to see if one would maybe be more lax than the other, but besides that he knew the rule which is why even he didn't make a huge deal out of it to either offical.
    • But......but what if I wanted to play the gold tees......☹️
