I've decided that I'm finally going to get the Callaway FT-5 driver. Only problem is I can only find it in a "Neutral" with the shaft and loft that I want.

I was hoping to get a "Draw" bias, thinking it might help straighten out my fade.

My question....does the draw/fade/neutral weighting really make a difference?

Thanks in advance.

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

Yes, it does. But to me only if you have trouble closing the face at impact. If you're swing fault is over the top. To me it doesn't make a difference.

I used to have a TM Burner Draw. Great club as I was struggling to close the face. After I worked it out, the draw became too much and undesirable. I've recently switched a neutral face now.

I have a Mizuno 600 something or other with the moveable weights. I wouldn't recommend it. It didn't make much difference. I am on a hunt for a new driver.

Invest in a lesson instead of a draw-biased driver?

The draw driver won't help your swing.

I appreciate the insight, everyone. You're right, I need to get the swing figured out first and foremost. But once it is corrected and I should be hitting it straight, will a draw weighted driver really make my now straight swing draw. Hence my question...do these weighted drivers really make a difference and do what they suggest?

Do you really fade... or slice?
My thoughts are that if you cannot correct your clubface now you will probably hit a game improvement club inconsistently too. If you were consistent with a fade you would just aim left with the club you have. My '07 Burner is not a draw driver but I sure can randomly hit it left.

As for do the weights do what they say they do, I think that depends on your swing. IMHO If weight in the toe will make the toe lag as you release the club (sorry Eric), or weight at the hosel cause your left arm to rotate more quickly through the ball then yes. I figure if your clubface is locked in its path when it hits the ball then the weighting probably will have no effect.

PS I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Yes it will.

I'd advise if your going to get a club that'll change your ball flight get a club like the Nike STR8-fit driver or the Taylormade R9 or the King Cobra L5V. These clubs change the face and can be changed around. They might cost more but they'll work better.

Another thing to consider is the face angle - not loft - of the driver.

Callaway 2008 Pocket Reference Guide says the FT-5 is 1 degree closed for 11 degrees loft and below, and 2 degrees closed for the 13 degree HT model. Torque also comes into play to help close clubface. The FT-5 has the Fuji E-150 as the stock shaft; both regular and stiff flexes had medium torque. I would compare the face angle and torque of your old driver with that of the FT-5. If your old driver had a 1 degree open face and low torque, for example, the FT-5 might be all you need. If your old drive promoted face, a draw bias driver migh overcorrect. Also, make sure your fade isn't the result of a swing flaw, or too stiff a shaft. You don't mention if you fade other clubs too. If you consistently fade the driver, and still get good distance, consider what FHopper said...
If you were consistent with a fade you would just aim left with the club you have.
