My brother has a one year old, busy job, needy wife, etc.. and can't get to the course as much as he would like these days. For Christmas, I was hoping to get him a good indoor mat. Like a 10' or so strip deal with ball return. I have seen some over the years, mostly cheap crap, we all know the type. Does anyone by chance know of a higher quality indoor putting mat?

I am a huge fan of the Boomerang Putting tool, which is a small plastic device you can use for putting practice at home. It returns the ball to you if you miss the putt and if you make it you have to knock the ball out of the holder to get it to return to you. Its alot of fun and has improved my putting tremendously.

On their website, you can also order a 12 foot "Carnoustie Putting Mat" that rolls up to use with the Boomerang. I really like this because it is a fast, high quality putting surface that is much better than my carpet. I can also roll it up and put it in the closet when not in use, which is nice because I also have a wife who wants it put away and small kids that would get into it if I left it out.

Here is the Boomerang website:

They have videos there to show you how it works and there are also videos on UTube if you want to see more. Hope that helps.

Here are some links that I've collected in my search for a good indoor putting green.

The Green Maker Greens seem to be the best. I've emailed them a couple times asking about their sizes and prices and they always respond quickly and seem to be able to make a green to fit your needs.

Hawk,

Thanks for the link. Boomerang looks different for sure.

As for the "mat", I am not looking for a whole green. This is a Christmas present and needs to be under $200. I am looking for a 2' x 12' (or so) nice putting "mat". Something he can get out and use, then put away to keep the wife happy. A hallway would be likely used. Any other ideas on high quality indoor putting mats? Thanks guys.

Hawk,

The link for the whole green above wasn't the only link I supplied... This is probably the best quality I've seen (from the link above): http://www.actionsportscompany.com/p...roducts_id=958 (although slightly more than $200) I called and got a sample from them which they shipped quickly and it seems to be pretty good material. I'm sure you could call and get a sample as well to see if it's what you're after. Other than that, for less than $200, you're likely looking at the same old junk. Maybe one of these? http://www.bigmoss.com/original-putting-green.html http://www.bigmoss.com/big-moss-tw-s...323910392.html

Thanks man, I missed the big moss as I opened the site and saw a full sized green:)

Thanks for the links.

I have a Big Moss green i bought off ebay. It's decent enough and much better than the crappy ones you normally see.

I try and hit about 15-20 putts a day on it and it seems to help. You can actually add or remove break on it which is nice because hitting dead flat 10' putts isn't all that helpful imo.

I've had one of the Big Moss 9ft ones for about a year and I really like/recommend it.
In the bag:
905R 9.5° - UST ProForce V2 65R
909F2 15.5° Titleist Diamana 75
909H 19° Titleist Diamana 80
Zing 2 3-PW Vokey SM48.08 @ 51° Vokey SM56.11 Unitized Leo

Personally I find those long narrow strips pointless. Because its so long and narrow, you intuitively putt straight and can almost always sink it. That 3x9 mat looks decent. I own a long strip with the little ramp at the end and I just putt on the carpet for more challenge now.

I'm looking for a high quality putting mat / portable indoor green to use in a fairly large space with and without a Z Factor machine.

I have a few questions:

1. Has anyone bought either a Big Moss ( http://www.bigmoss.com/admiral-puting-green.html ) or one of the "Roll-N-Putt" portable greens from Action Sports ( http://www.actionsportscompany.com/p...ducts_id=959)? Has anyone seen both? If so, which do you recommend and why? I've seen quite a few positive reviews of the Big Moss greens.

2. How do these higher quality mats perform? Do they lie flat, or do they still bunch up or gather "lines" like their cheaper counterparts (I've had a couple of those!)?

3. I'd like to learn more about the portable Greenmaker greens ( http://www.greenmakergreens.com ). Has anyone bought (or seen) one of these? What do you think? If these greens are any good, I assume their main advantage over a simpler mat would be that they have real cups. Are there any other reasons to look seriously at these greens? Any other alternatives?

Plenty of questions, I know, so that'll do for the moment. Please help me out if you can. Thanks, guys.
Current setup:
Titleist 909D2 9.5°, Diamana Blue Stiff | Titleist 909F2 15.5°, Diamana Blue Stiff | Mizuno MP-57 3-P, Nippon NS Pro 1050GH Stiff | Titleist Vokey SM 54.11, 60.07 | Scotty Cameron ACVII / Napa California | Titleist Pro V1X

I've only had experience with the Big Moss green, it's decent and I can't really complain about it. It doesn't bunch and get lines like the cheaper types of putting greens.

I use it every day and I've seen improvement in my putting so I guess it's getting the job done.

What happened to the three reviewers who were going to review the TPS? I never got a video, or even heard back...

You should try the SKLZ Accelerator Pro putting mat. It is super high quality and has markings on the actual mat that helps train you on 3,5,7 foot putts.

also look at the SKLZ Vari Break Putting mat -- it is 33 square feet and comes with wedges so you can practice on putting surface that has breaks.

Check out SKLZ.com

If cost is a factor, got a carpet store and ask about their left overs. You can get some really good quality pergo carpet with the same texture as putting mats. Plus, sometimes you can get it as freebie from the store. As mentioned above, you can change the slope with carpet to practice different putts.

Since I live so far from town, I make my own mats for putting, and/or full swings. My full swing mats even act like I take a divot with them.

A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

In Australia, I went to our local hardware big box outlet. I found rolls of putting mat where flooring is available. The speed of the mat is 14/9 compared to the average speed of my local greens. Accuracy is fine, I have to remember speed. I could possibly put some sand on the mat to slow it down.
