Hello folks, looking forward to hanging out on the forum and trying to learn more about this great game. From Rhode Island, I started playing golf 3 years ago when a medical condition forced me to give up soccer and long-distance running. I'm thankful that I have found a fun and challenging way to keep exercising. The last 2 years I put my clubs away for the winter; but this year I'm really going to try to work on my game at the indoor dome here in Warwick, RI. And I'll probably be on the forum alot too with winter golf withdrawal setting in!

Have a look at bagsgolf.com I played with them when i lived in boston a few years back. They have a RI League and think they do a florida trip in December if you are looking for some competitive golf over the winter.

Thanks, good to hear from a fellow Rhody. We've actually had some decent weather this month, but it's only a matter of time.

C'mon man, don't jinx us. It's gonna be almost 60 here tomorrow. I'm hoping to get out there while the getting is good.

Another place down your way to check out if you want to play some outdoor winter golf is Triggs Memorial in Providence. I played it last winter and it held up pretty well. http://www.triggs.us/

Three lousy shots and one brilliant shot can still make par...

I actually live less than 5 miles from Triggs! Great course, right? It was tough to play during the summer because they had so many tournaments/events booked. But I played there last week, and will try to get out a few more times if possible. I'll try to be more optimistic about the weather, too!

Yeah, I had a great time when I played it. My only complaint was with the crowd control. I played it the first nice weekend in April, so it was obviously packed, but there were a lot of twosomes that could have been made into foursomes just to speed the rounds up.

Now, since you're in the general area I would also recommend you check out Chemawa Golf Course in North Attleboro next spring. It's my absolute favorite course in southern Massachusetts. Not very long (only one par 5 and it plays more like a par 4), but probably the best maintained place around considering what you pay to play.

Yeah, I have run into that same problem at Triggs where they send out twosomes, singles, etc. and just have a real traffic jam. Love that course on a weekday afternoon or evening, but I don't think I'll ever play there again on a weekend during peak season. Last time I did it took 5+ hours and I can't handle that.

Chemawa I played a couple years ago and I've been meaning to go back. Definitely short, but it was in real nice shape.

    • Day 12: did the yardstick putting drill for a bit while watching tv.
    • Hole 6, 185 uphill par 3, wind out of the right. I hit a 7 iron to 5-FT left of the pin. The ball landed about 185.5 yards. I drained the putt for a birdie, and most likely a skin.  2nd place is more of a best swing made. 110 yard wedge shot, where I did what I wanted in the back swing and downswing.  I hit a 75% partial wedge 95%. It was flushed, flighted, and beautiful to watch fly over the green. 🤣. I will need to redial in the wedges sometime. Since I am making an effort to make my former 3/4 swing length my full swing length.
    • Is that like "the longest yardstick you can find"? I don't have Airtags but I'd call all of them Airtags too.!
    • Yea, that makes sense.  I remember an Open tournament when they brought out the wind meter one day because balls were being blown around the green. I think it was 45+ sustained, which probably means 60 mph gusts.  I think for the most part, it isn't something that needs to be taken into account.  Also, a golf ball is designed to optimally move through the air. It has better aerodynamics than a sphere.  Thanks for your expertise on this. That makes sense. I know about how wind diminishes the lower in height you go. I didn't know it went near zero at the ground. I deal more with tall structures (utility poles), and we have to take into account height and impacts of wind on the pole. A bit of experience, but wasn't sure how close to zero, non-impactful it was on the golf ball on the ground.
    • Day 2 (7 Aug 25) - More work on tempo with mid-irons, moved to wedges for the balance of the drill.
