Hit this driver today on a launch monitor against my Titleist 909D2. I was blowing it by my 909D2 by 10-15 yards, consistently. The stock shaft was very good, giving me a high launch/low spin combo. It may have been the increased shaft length, but I was swinging about 5 mph faster with the ZL. To seal the deal, this club feels amazing, not the hollow, aluminum bat feel of previous Cobras (L5V, L4V).

Anyone else impressed by this driver??

I agree! This driver has a very good stock shaft and the technology is better than what is in your D2. This is a carbon composite driver. I have to give props to Cobra for making the best drivers in golf. I will never switch.

It is a great driver.
However, I only found that i hit it about 5 yards farther than my titleist 909d2.

It is a great driver.

I thought about it again last night, I think it might have been the shaft. I remember hitting a 909D3 with a Voodoo shaft and also hitting it extremely far. My D2 has the Diamana, I might have to switch it out for a Voodoo.

Still very impressed with the ZL though!

yup totally agree. I hit it at the range at a local shop in Sacramento and immediately fell in love with the sound and feel the driver makes when you hit it. The only criticism I have (and which I have heard/read elsewhere) is that the stock club length is 46" which is much too long for the average golfer (like myself) and creates more problems in regards to accuracy than it helps with distance. This is a simple fix though if you buy the club from your local shop and get fitted so that they can cut down to a length that works.

I love the look of it.
I love my LV4 only problem with it is the lack of feel and the sound.

I guess that solves the problem and hits the ball farther.
great!

I just bought a Cobra ZL 9.5 degree from 3balls.com for $80. It's coming with the Cobra Voodoo X-Flex. Anyone tried this combo?

I love the driver. I have had it since it first came out .. Nothing feels quite like it. Did like the r11, but the distance was lacking hardcore.. I tried the RBZ, but I was inside so didn’t get a good reading on distance. The only complaint I have (me being left handed) is that they would make a lower degree for it... Like a 8.0 or 8.5 degree.. I would be ALL over it...

Hit the ZL Encore at a demo day yesterday and am seriously considering it. Great pop off the face and loved the ball flight. The stock shaft was a bit too light for me, so I hit it with a ProForce 65 gram shaft and that seemed to do the trick. Cobra upcharge on the shafts are less than other companies too. Hit the Razr Fit the day before, and their upcharge on the same shaft was $150, whereas Cobra's for that shaft is only $50.

I have a Titleist demo day today, Taylormade on Friday, and Ping later in the month and then I will make the decision. My wife and kids got me a R11s for my birthday, but I have not hit it yet as want to make sure I get the right driver.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
