I have an older set of cavity backs that I would like to reshaft. I have been reading up on clubmaking practices and am considering doing it myself as a small project. How difficult of a project would this be for someone that has no practical experience? If this works out, I may even try to build a set from new components.

I am considering the same thing. I have only looked at ebay for equipment and it all seems cheap. From what I can gather this is not rocket science. I bought a ready made Snake Eyes 7 iron on ebay and it is very high quality. I would definitely build a set of Snake Eyes if I needed clubs and would have no concerns about quality. I think steel shafts make a lot of sense for irons and Graphite for metals. Golfsmith seems to be a good place to "kit" the components.

nah, it's not a difficult process. just make sure you've read up enough and seen some videos so you can get an idea. you can do what i did, you to your local pro shop or some where around you where golf clubs are fixed and watch how they do it. i re-shaft and re-grip my own clubs, it's not that hard. go to golfworks.com and they have anything and everything you'd need to make you're own clubs. they also have shaft trim codes and instructions. good luck with your set.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
