Imagine a team that's so evenly matched that they tie every game against every team they play all year, tie every OT period, and never win in the shootout. They should have 0 points despite being able to "play hockey" against every team?

under the rules, they would have 82 points and probably win their division. You get the point simply for getting the tie in regulation, the winner in OT or the shootout gets a second point.

I know the rules. I also know it took 93 points in the Eastern Conference and 91 in the Western to make the playoffs last year. Division winners had 106, 116, 108, 112, 100, and 117 points.

The previous year the numbers were 94 and 91 and 102, 104, 94, 115, 98, and 108. When I said they'd have 0 points, that was if winners were given 2 points and losers 0 (most abolitionists of the three-point game want to see that rule put in place, not a return to the 1-1 split for ties).

I'd have no problem with the NHL going back to ties. Like soccer, hockey is a sport where allowing teams to play to a fair draw is preferable than having rules that manufacture a contrived victory. Playoff hockey is outstanding, extra time is outstanding, but neither is very feasible for day-to-day league play. That sentiment, though, doesn't really go along too well with the American mindset, where there has to be one winner and one loser.

The penalty should've been on the defender for being in Adrian Peterson's way. Guy is a maniac.
