No but I also have one of those drivers

Seriously though, sounds that other clubs or people make don't often distract or annoy me. I guess I'm lucky in that sense.

Wow... that's pretty extreme. Do you also have to spray people with a scent who smell bad?

perhaps you've never heard someone hit an ft-3? and if you have, imagine that sound every 20 seconds or so.

I play with someone who uses one. Sure, it's different. But annoying to the point of leaving a driving range? Not even close.

Prutkows,

Have you hit the FT-3 yet? The sound bugged me at first, but when I started averaging about 2.7 mph greater ball speed, I got used to it mighty quickly.

I can add that the sound still bugs me when someone else is hitting it (mildly bugs me... not enough to not play with someone or something), but I don't mind it when I'm hitting it. Different acoustics.

Oh, and the sound it makes really seems to tell you the swing speed. Phil Mickelson's FT-3 sounds very different than mine, and mine sounds very different than my friend Don's. We're probably 15 MPH different between each of us.

Prutkows,

yeah i demoed it a couple of weeks ago when you suggested to try it out. it was alright but i didnt really like the aesthetics and my usual draw turned into somewhat of a hook. i used a neutral weighted one.

I play with someone who uses one. Sure, it's different. But annoying to the point of leaving a driving range? Not even close.

yeah, my friend uses one too and when we go out on the course it doesnt really bother me, and even when we're at the range together it doesnt really bother me. the only reason i left was 3 people hitting it simultaneously got really annoying.

and yes, the sound is quite different when you're the one hitting it.

Indeed - my claim to fame for "the hottest avatar on the sandtrap forum" seems to be expired

Anyway - about the FT-3 sound - gas_can told me in one of the other threads, that the 'hot-melt' process removes the fungo out of it. Indeed - the Callaway commercial with Lefty and Annika - their shots don't sound nothin' like it...

mm. im sure callaway was aware of the odd sound the ft-3 made at impact and probably did some fancy sound work to eliminate it.

prutkows,

It's not as difficult as you might think to dampen the sound of most drivers. Just about 6g of hotmelt is enough to completely change the acoustics of a driver. That also helps greatly since I like to play my drivers at shorter than "standard" lengths.

it's also used to increase clubhead weight, right?

Rafcin,

Correct, that's the primary use of hotmelt. It is a far more effective and cleaner way of increasing head weight than lead tape. With hotmelt you can also concentrate the weighting in the heel, toe, bottom, or crown of the driver to make minor changes in center of gravity. I play all my drivers at 44.5". Without hotmelt, I would be relegated to C9-D0 swing weights which is far too light.
