Wonder what people's thoughts are on the comparison between these drivers? Pros and cons, compare/contrast? I know the R9 costs $100 more and has the movable weights with the adjustable head position, whereas the R9 460 is cheaper and only has the adjustable head settings (Neutral, Left, Right). I went and hit the 460 at the range today and loved the way it felt and sounded. Didnt get a chance to hit the R9 yet. Is it worth the $100 upgrade?

While I cant speak from personal experience with the 460, I did hit the original R9. It is a great driver, but not the most forgiving thing out there. If you get a little off-center, expect to lose 10-15 yards. If you're hitting the same spot on the clubface every time, it's just as long as anything else out there right now. Everything I read about the R9 460 is that the added forgiveness took care of that problem, at the expense of losing the MWT. I dont think you can go wrong with the 460, unless you're really wanting MWT.

yeah as far as I'm concerned, the adjustable head position is more than enough. I'm a big believer in fixing your swing - if you have a slice, for example - as opposed to buying clubs that will compensate for the errors in your swing. However, I also realize that these Taylormade drivers, adjustable or not, are some of the best drivers on the market.
Thanks for the info on the 460. The fact that it's more forgiving combined with the $100 difference in price pretty much sells me on it :)

the article said that buying an adjustable driver will help your swing? That's really weird it seems like all it would do is help your results by compensating for the defects in your swing.

I use my Dymo Str8-Fit to help fix problems that creep in, but not necessarily in the way you would think. If I'm practicing, and my shots start bleeding to the right, I'll actually open it up a couple of degrees, in order to force myself to correct the problem. Almost like an over-exaggeration-type of thing. If I have it a 2° open, and I can go dead straight something like 15 or 17 out of 20 times, I know for sure that I've eliminated whatever problem I had (it can vary for me

). What I'm getting at is that you can use the R9 with FCT (which is the same basic tech as Str8-Fit) the same way, although I'm sure I'm in the minority of people that use it this way.

I'm looking looking into a new driver this winter. I have been looking around a bit and I am interested in the r9 460. I don't have the money to go out and get fitted which would be the best option but I know my swing speed. The reason the driver is attractive to me is I can add or take off loft and in a way, fit my driver. Would the technology work in this way? Has anyone ever done this? I want to get an antihook driver and don't want to spend a ton. On ebay the prices aren't bad.

idk about loft. The R9 460 does not have the movable weight technology that the R9 has. It has the adjustable face that you can adjust to neutral, open, or closed as ControlJunkie talks about above.

Having the correct shaft and the correct swing far outweigh what type of driver you are using. Personally... i would rather pay 300 for a shaft than a a new driver. The heads are so similar that people with the handicaps most of play to are unnoticable. Now a shaft... that can change everything.

This sounds like a great idea and an awesome way to get rid of bad tendencies in your swing before they balloon into something very serious. I might have to steal this from you when I purchase my 460

Have to agree that the shaft is a VERY important component of a good driver, but have to disagree about the heads. Having done a lot of recent testing of various drivers by various companies I can very comfortably say that the head can make a huge difference. I have hit so many drivers recently whose heads feel hollow and too light and do not inspire much confidence on contact. And then others like the R9 460 and the Cobra ZL which I have recently tested have much more solid feeling heads with a bit more weight that make you go "ah yes" when you make contact (and obviously the results generally translate from the feel you get).

I've only had the R9 460.

I found it to be very forgiving and the adjustablity was cool, however I settled in on slightly open and left it there.

The club certainly looked great but I never felt it gave me the distance I was expecting. I'm not looking for miracles, either, but the stick was just sort of dead. It could have been a problem unique to the club I had. I bought it from a very reputable local golf shop, new....so I'm sure it wasn't an imitation.

I hit the original r9 and wasn't crazy about the lack of forgiveness. When the r9 460 came out, I fell in love with the Motore F1 shaft and the 460 head and picked one up. I've been loving it ever since. It's 10-15 yards longer than my Titleist 907D1 and just as accurate. The stock shaft was almost an inch longer, so that took some getting used to, but it's all good now. Of course if it bothers you that much you can always cut it down to whatever you want.
