18 handicapper, 6'3"/200lbs and 20 years old. Brand new Bridgestone J36 Pocket-Cavity irons which I absolutely love....And please excuse the waggle....It's a nervous habit that I can't seem to break.

All of the videos were taken today while I played Pine Barrens in Crystal River, Florida. Played quite well all things considered.

Iron shot head-on

Can't find the video of iron shot behind....I'll get that soon....

Ok, here we go!

Iron behind (Sort of) - this is out of some mud FYI

Iron, head-on

I can't notice anything really bad. I don't have the best eye for a swing, but it looks solid. It does look like you have a really strong grip, though. I'm guessing you miss left? I'd try weakening it a tad. I'm kind of puzzled that you're an 18. Is your short game/putting not great?

Oh and don't worry about the waggle. Almost every tour pro waggles. It just frees up the swing.

A few things I noticed with your driver swing:

Try and give yourself a wider stance and try not to stand so close to the ball.

Also I bet so struggle to get the ball airborn with the driver - try and stay behind the ball at impact with more a sweeping motion. Your hands should be closer to your zipper at address as opposed to your left thigh.

Grip looks a tad strong but difficult to tell at the distance shown.

Fix these and that handicap will come tumbling down.

I can't chip for my life. I'd much rather be 100 yards out than 50...Thus the handicap, though it's probably outdated.

It seems that the grip needs to weaken a bit, and I tried that a bit at the range yesterday with some good results.

I do tend to hit VERY low drives....I think you're right, and that I need to stay behind the ball a bit more. Playing again today. Results to come.

You actually put a pretty good move on the ball.

I would would say just time on the range and playing for improvement.

To be picky, you may want to work on your leg action a little. Your feet are very square, and that has you boxed in a little (inhibiting leg action). Watch some you tube video of the top players and watch their legs. Something that is often over looked.

Overall, lots of good things going on.

Some swing issues I noticed-
A bit of head movement throughout the swing. You start off with a sway back to your right, then at the top of the backswing your head moves down, then during the forward swing, your head moves to your left. Try to stay more centered over the ball throughout your swing.

Because of the sway back to your right during the backswing, you're
going to have difficulty mastering the timing to get your weight forward enough at impact. The big picture here is to stay centered during the backswing, then push your hips forward to your left and really get your momentum going to the left on the forward swing. You kind of get stuck with your weight on the right during the first part of the forward swing.

There are some other minor/less important issues, but the head/torso movement I feel is the primary issue.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
