Playing on Christmas Day (course closed)

Does anyone else walk on to your local course to play a few holes on Christmas Day?

I've been doing it for a few year now. The wife and the dogs come out and we walk and I play a few holes. Kind of a tradition now before we go do family stuff.

I used to live on the first hole of a second-rate semi-private course and would play it every Thanksgiving with visiting relatives. It was closed at the time, but like most folks in the community, we owned a cart so I would use mine and borrow my neighbor's. The owner of the course lived on the second or third hole and no doubt knew we were playing, but never said a word. I would always see a handful of other folks on the course too. I figured if the owner said something, I would happily pay for the round.

I went out last year on Christmas for a few holes. At my home course the pro shop is closed on Christmas, there's no staff around and they just put out a courtesy box for greens fees but seeing as I'm a member I don't have to pay anyway. It's usually quite quiet. I'd probably play a whole round if I didn't have family duties to attend to on Christmas.

The course is covered in snow and the ground is frozen over here.

But yes I would play if weather permitted.

We still have snow on the ground and havent played for a week. Hoping for more rain/warmer weather. Going to meet the lads at the clubhouse anyways for an Xmas beer!

Courses are offering mad discounts in the morning over in So Cal!

Guess I won't make it out to the course and break the tradition since there is snow here in Texas! I think this is the first white Christmas since 1926.
