Until recently I would take a yearly mid-September trip to Northern Michigan by myself for a 2 day golf trip. It's a beautiful time of the year for golf in Michigan, rates are down and the courses up there are nearly empty. I love playing by myself and enjoying the wonderful holes and scenery.

I've never done a golf trip alone but I did play my first round alone ever this afternoon. I have always been a little hesitant to go alone or play with someone I didn't know because I was worried I wouldn't be good enough or piss them off somehow by breaking some rule, etc. I wanted to play real bad this week and no one else could sneak away so I said screw it and went alone. I actually played the front 9 by my self and then caught up with a couple who was in front of me and we finished the back together. Playing alone though I noticed that I was playing extremely fast and I felt like I was running around the course. I kept telling myself to slow down but couldn't. It was almost a relief to play the back with the other couple and my score showed it. Anyone else ever feel that way???

I play golf alone a lot at my local course. If the course is open, I tend to rush the shots. It's like racing with myself even if no one is behind me. However; if I got paired up with some other folks, I tend to play better golf.

    • If I can take a full swing, I'll use the stock club for that yardage.  I can't really get creative.  Just don't have that ability.  In the past, I used a sand wedge for all my shots around the green, opening or closing the face and moving the ball back or forward in my stance to get the flight I wanted.  I am trying now to use different clubs around the green.  I'm less likely to flub it but I struggle with distance control.  More practice required.

Lots of interesting info and it's very funny.  Lou is one of the hosts along with Greg Chalmers and Mark Crossfield.  They love to give each other a hard time.  Lou catches most of it, but he takes it well and dishes out his fair share.  Great show.
