This question is for all those whose home courses are covered in snow right now. I just started playing golf last summer, so I have not played in the Spring before. My question is, When will most courses let you play? As soon as the snow is gone? Or do they make you wait until it dries out a little?

For the most part when the snow is gone they are willing to let you play...they may have temp greens and it will be sloppy. Life in the Northeast (or cold climates) i guess.

Walkers are welcome during winter while the ground is fozen, but we put flags on approaches in front of the greens. When thaw arrives, we close the course until the greens are firmed up so as not to get foot printing. Carts are obviously not allowed until ground is firmed up as well, but even at that they are delayed until course is somewhat cleaned up from winter debris. The maintenance crew doesn't need their job any harder by carts breaking up sticks and causing ruts made in certain areas that don't firm up as fast. Every course is different, mostly due to whether or not it's private or public. In these times, I've known public courses to never close because the revenue is needed.

Usually I find that the courses that aren't that great and don't get that much playing over the season will be open year round, just to try to make a few extra bucks.

Courses are open year round in the south, unfortunately it can be too soggy to play. We get rain instead of all the snow you northern boys get. And it can get cold here too, so I might average 1 round a golf per week in the winter.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
