Late last year I went through a grip change back to neutral after discovering I'd gone too strong by a local professional. Ever since that change I've had to work on drilling in a "correct" swing rather than one using a very strong grip. I'm getting there - slowly - but getting there....

So, I'm looking to buy a new driver and I've found a professional fitter in my area who provides a custom fitting service for free (assuming you buy a club from him) - he uses the FlightScope out on the range so you can also see ball flight/shape, etc.

The answer to my question seems to be obvious to me, but wanted to check what everyone thought - so, should I wait until I've drilled-in my swing BEFORE getting custom fitted or will it not matter so much?

Appreciate any thoughts you might have.

YES! wait until you have your new swing down! no point going to get fitted for a club to suit a swing that you are in the process of changing.

Once youve got the swing change completed, your swing path, angle of attck, swing speed etc will all have most probably changed.
This completely alters what shaft, head, loft etc that you will need.

No harm in going to see him now and get some numbers for angle of attack, swing path etc it will let you know in greater detail how you are getting on and if the fitter is good he will be able to tell you what sort of angles you should be aiming for. He may charge you for this...or you could go see a pro who has access to a good launch monitor and go over it with him.

I did this before and after my swing change and it really helped me to see in numbers the difference i had actually achieved.

Im with McIlroy here. A lot of new clubs will cover up mistakes in the swing. This is especially true with drivers. As with any scientific tets, you only want to change on variable during your testing. In this case, the one variable being your swing, you can only get a true feel of your results if you start and finish your swing change with the same club. I'd hate to spend a bunch of money on a new club and get good results only to find that my swing was still flawed.
