Interesting points. i do agree that fat and thin shots aren't opposites and are both usually caused by the swing bottoming out behind the ball.. I disagree however that

I am sincerely glad that practicing hitting the ball thin helped cure your issue of hitting behind the ball. All I was saying is that it is not a "good" method to cure this problem. For most players it is not. Again...I am glad it helped you and wasn't saying it couldn't possibly help certain people (very few things are universal)...just that there are much better ways to go about it. Thanks for responding!

What is the most common cause for hitting it fat or thin? Erik mentioned there was one flaw which most struggled with.

For me, it's the weight transfer. I can't consciously try hitting the ball first. It may work for some time, but not consistently. What helps me is wokring on balance, steady upper body and weight shift. By doing that, good impact comes all by itself. I don't have to think about it at all. I swing like I always do, but work on weight transfer and keeping my head from moving laterally.

Dave, I tried your drill. I actually scratched a line in the snow. This worked well because I could plainly see where the club came down and also direction. If I come over the top and swing outside in I find it very easy to hit down in front of the line. When I make sure to come from the inside then it is very hard for me to bring the club down in front. This is very frustrating for me because I have tried many different things and none seem to work consistently.

Try placing a ball under your right golf shoe only, and think hands ahead on impact, you may be opening up early. Think ball, grass, divot. Hands ahead on impact. I just watched Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus on VHS, I would say you might
be moving your head on the backswing and downswing. Good luck up there.

    • I just returned from a trip to Page Arizona for a photography trip I've been wanting to do for a few years now. It was a much needed break for me. The Antelope Canyons have intrigued me for years and I finally got to experience them for myself. They were beautiful in person but I was amazed at how the camera and post processing captured the colors in a way the eyes don't see them.  Here's one of the images I took at the Lower canyons.
    • I watch a lot of mytpi. Some of the best instruction on youtube imo. It amazes me how many pros struggle with early extension. I thought that was a problem reserved for us amateurs and hacks! Lol myTPI has helped me assess and address my mobility and strength issues as well as my release and early extension. I love this level of detail...I feed on it!!
