If 2 different brands of drivers have the same loft and fitted with the same shaft, is it possible that one driver can hit further than another consistently? This is assuming the loft is the true loft for both manufacturers.

I have a TM burner 09 (10.5 deg) and a titleist 905R (9.5 deg). I have tested the 905R and it can outdrive the TM by about 20 yields consistently. Is this truely because of the loft difference?

There are so many more factors than just loft and clubhead brand that determine drive distance. The only way to answer your question would be to shaft a driver head of your two brands of the same loft with the same shaft on a swing robot and let em' rip. Otherwise to many variables exist to provide accurate results. Therefore swing the club/shaft combination that works best for you.

Reason i ask is that eventhough i can hit the titliest 20 yards further, my consistency is not as good as the TM which i can hit the fairway quite consistently. So i believe fairway hit is more important than the 20 yards. However, human is a greedy animal. :)

I totally agree with that. and there are differences in forgiveness between clubheads. I read a post earlier that was interesting regarding clubheads. It was titled something like Vintage drivers vs. modern drivers. The link within had a lot of interesting input. Like there is really only a 30 some odd % actual increase in modern club distance over vintage clubs from the 20's and 30's. Though accuracy was greatly increased.
I would much rather play from the fairway anyday, but hitting those par 5's in 2 really feels good too.

From my experience each shaft acts differently for the different heads... so, it's important to find the right head/shaft combination.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

From experience I found out that while I hit the Callaway FT-iq straighter with more fairways hit, I hit a Callaway FT-9 about 15/20 yards further with about the same amount of control. I also have the I-Mix in the FT-9 and switch between a regular and stiff shaft depending on conditions. I hit the stiff lower and the regular a little higher. Jury is still out on which one works best for me in most situations but the stiff won for most time in the bag.

A simple answer is yes, the driver head does make a difference due to difference in COR and mass. But like many have said, that is not the only factor.
