He's just following the lead of our nations many politicians who have cheated on their own taxes far too often.

Good point. He's due for a cabinet appointment.

That is a fact. Cheating and politics go hand in hand. I would guess big Jim will be fine and will be back on tour later this year.

Well, he's going to jail for a year, starting sometime between now and April 1. So I suspect he'll be back on tour

next year. I have no idea how Champions Tour exempt status works, so I don't know if he can get back. I haven't heard of any PGA Tour *players* going to jail, so I don't even know how it would work on that level.

More people should try to emulate Thorpe and not pay their taxes. If I ) didnt have taxes automatically deducted i wouldn't pay them either. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Jim Thorpe is a good guy. I don't know what the deal is with his taxes. I do know that even when you pay people to handle these types of things for you ultimately you are the one responsible. He may well have had people telling him everything was properly taken care of and had every reason to believe it to be true, but found out after being audited that that wasn't that case. Jail time seems a bit harsh, so perhaps his level of culpability was higher than that (e.g. he had knowledge that his taxes weren't being done properly and failed to act), but he still is a good guy. Thorpe came from humble beginnings and it's a real shame to see it come to this for him. Usually it's the guys who don't come from much financially that have the hardest time adjusting to fame and fortune. It sounds like he's taking this well and will no doubt bounce back, but I hate to see this happen to a prominent African American golfer. Let's face it outside of your local muni you really aren't seeing to many of them these days.
