Has anyone run into someone on the golf course that really inspires them as a golfer or human being?

Last week, while playing at a course here on Fort Bragg, our group was complaining about the slow-play of the two-some in front of us. On about the 3rd hole, we caught up with the group on the next teebox. It turns out that one of the gentlemen in the group in front of us was a Wounded Warrior, and had been hit by a roadside bomb, and had lost both of his legs and was playing with 2 prosthetics. It kind of made me and the others in my group sit back and think about what's important to us. We were complaining about being slowed up on the golf course..........geez, big deal. I felt like a total dirtbag. The entire group I was in was filled with military retirees, all combat veterans from Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam.

When we caught up with them, and talked to them, they asked us if we'd like to play through. The old Vietnam vet that was with us said it perfectly: "Son, it would be our honor to play behind you all day if necessary. You get up there and tee off, and don't worry about us. Thank You for all that you've given to this country"

It is a great story. I have been in those "open mouth, insert foot" situations before.

Great story!

I played with a couple of one-armed golfers before.
It was a society day for them and I had gone out on my own.
They were really good, They could blast drives miles their only problem was distance control with wedges.
Very nice people.

My uncle lost his leg in a vehicle accident a couple years ago and he plays to about a 10 handicap. Very impressive. He can beat me most of the days...

About ten years ago, I went to a wedding in NC for one of my ex-girl friends. I played a round at one of the course there (I forgot the name of the course), and got paired with three army rangers. Greatest guys I have met on a golf course.
