I am sure that most start with the ball lined up in the center of the clubface but wanted to know if anyone prefers lining it up on the heel or toe?

I make contact in the center of the clubface more often when I stand closer to the ball and line it up off of the heel of the club. Not sure but I think it helps me swing more towards the target or even cut across it rather than coming from the inside so much.

If you watch Zach Johnson, he lines up with the ball on the toe of his club

I was JUST going to ask about this... similar, at least.

Most of the time, my mishits are off the toe. I got to a pretty decent spot when I started setting up with my arms as close as possible while still having the ball in the center of the clubface. Other day at the range, I was working with getting my hips moving forward a bit before I finished my backswing... Damned if I wasn't STILL hitting off the toe. From there;

I started giving this a try with pretty solid results. However, it concerns me a bit, as I'm thinking it indicates some sort of Tragic Swing Flaw that I'm compensating for. I was setting up with the clubface a good couple of inches past the ball and making more solid contact than when I lined up the clubface. That mean I'm too steep?

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

Hitting it on the toe is often caused by swinging over the top. There are many swing flaws which can cause mishits.

If you can find a set-up that works, go with it. What you might want to do is go to a Senior Tour event, or a Regional PGA event. The old timers and small-towners have a much more colorful variety of swings than boys on the PGA Tour. You may find a pro that swings pretty much like you do when you are

making more solid contact . Don't be afraid to go with what works, unless it only works a couple of weeks then disappears. (This implies you don't want to rebuild your swing completely.)

Focus, connect and follow through!

If your getting your shots out of the toe of the club it could mean that you are giving urself too much room (From the butt of the club to ur body) or, yes

i have found I can play different shots depending how I address the ball. I set the ball up at the heel to play a draw because it allows me to roll and get my hands over into the proper position much easier. Other than that i pretty much setup the ball smack in the middle of the clubface. Thats just me though :) every game is different
