What does sandblasting wedges do?

I am shopping around for new wedges, and have come across a variety of wedges that have been sandblasted and than flamed after the chrome was removed.
What effect does this have?
Does this take away from the life of the club?
Is this illegal in amateur tournaments?
Would this be something that is sought after?

Only thing I can think of is that the owners wanted to get the old trusty rusty going. Seems to me this process would have the same effect of not putting any finish on the club at all..therefore the club will rust.. and you will get more bite. This is the concept behind the oil can finish on some Cleveland wedges.. they are designed to rust. So if you want this same rust effect on a Calaway, or Adams or whatever, and they didnt offer the no finish option.. you would have to sandblast the chrome, or whatever, off.

Don't they sandblast all irons and wedges before they apply the chrome finish? I could be wrong, but that's just what I heard. Does anyone know for sure?

That's what I think they're trying to do.

Raw wedges is the same term too. There's very little difference spin wise though so it doesn't justify the price difference.

It's been proven many times you get no added spin from rust. If anything it inhibits spin.

i have been told before that a chrome finish will spin more....was I told wrong? I just dont like the glare I get from chrome.
