Eagle Mountain is underrated. Agree that it is forgiving, but very enjoyable layout. IMO, the GD rankings are usually way off as if they had some secondary gain issues.

I've played Troon, Talking Stick, Greyhawk, We-Ko-Pa, Eagle Mountain, Gold Canyon, and a few others in the PHX area.

My rankings (I am bias in that I love mountain/hill golf with significant changes in altitude)
WeKoPa both courses
Gold Canyon both courses
Troon
Eagle Mountain
Greyhawk

Just got back from Scottsdale. Why not Troon North or Grayhawk?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Heck, both are good.

Does that mean you work for Grayhawk or are you just lucky to have a great view?

Has anyone played at Superstition Mountain? They have two great looking courses, but the website makes them look semi-private. But I have found tee-times for them.

You should play both of the We-Ko-Pa courses for sure. Stadium course is fun but pass on the Champions even with that rate. Also take a look into Eagle Mountain, its not as well known but for sure better than both of those courses at the Boulders.

grayhawk is nice, never played TPC, eagle mountain is a regular for me and my dad.
Dove Valley Ranch - easier but I love this course for some reason. front is wide open and back is VERY targetey
Talking stick - very flat for AZ standards, not too difficult. north and south courses. at a Casino so is on the resort style.
Estrella Mountain Ranch or whatever it's called now. LONG drive out west. worth it from scottsdale? probably not. nice course. very undulated. Couple holes you get to the tee and say wow. eagle mountain takes it's place.
this won't fit your trip but if someone is on a more budget trip I would suggest Papago. It's Public and not the greatest shape but it is a classic and was on the LPGA for a while.
Also wigwam (way out west too) gold course. I like the red but they redid the gold and its huge. 7430 from correctly named "monster" tees.

Ok, I leave for Scottsdale tomorrow morning. So excited, can't wait (too bad I am starting to get a cold). Booked all of our golf.... Monday - Grayhawk Raptor, Tuesday - 36 holes @ Gold Canyon (Sidewinder then Dinosaur Mountain), Wednesday - Spring Training game, Thursday - Troon North, Friday - TPC Stadium Course, Saturday - Spring Training game. Didn't get We-Ko-Pa in there, dad really wanted to play TPC, I really wanted to play Troon, and got great deals on the other two.

Those are all amazing courses, enjoy it! I played We-Ko-Pa last weekend and I put it at the top of my list, but you will not be disappointed with the courses you are playing. Hopefully, the weather should be great this week as well.

I may be biased because I get free rounds here, but the SCCC course in Sun City would have to be my favorite pound-for-pound. It really doesn't feel like Phoenix, grass and trees everywhere, and it even has a water feature! It's an incredible value for the quality of the course, I can even post some pictures if you'd like.

Sounds like a fun trip!! I'm sure I will be passing by you almost every day..........I'm working while you are playing......

Every course and Ball game I pass, I will make sure I give you a salute....

I haven't played the new TPC Champion course, but the Stadium course is the better of the two.

One course to play if you can, We-Ko-Pa . Troon North is a favorite too.

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
