Got my clubs extended... Now I'm chunking, cause for concern?

So I went to Dick's yesterday to pick up my irons that I had extended and had the toe angle altered on (added 2 inches and moved angle 2 degrees). The guy at the store let me hit a few on the simulator and in 5 shots I didn't get the 5-iron more than 160 yards and fat. I'm not about making excuses, but I did spend all day yesterday driving back to Cleveland from Chicago and I decided instead of going home I would go pick up my clubs, needless to say I wasn't focused on my form too much, just wanted some sleep. The more overarching question though is will this correct itself naturally? I mean I hit the normal clubs well just incredibly hunched over. Is my body trying to contort itself at impact to the same as it is with the normal irons, causing the club face to drive into the ground?

I don't know, its just annoying that the chunks are back, especially since I'm going on a trip next weekend. Feels good to rage about it here though :)

wow adding 2 inches seems like alot? How tall are u? Most likely your used to the old length so thats why your chunking it.

To inches is probably right, and yes, you should hit it fat now. With the old clubs, you had to compensate by huncing over or dipping to get the club down to the ball. You got new clubs now, but not a new swing, so you will naturally still hunch over and dip. Difference now is that your clubs are 2 inches longer, and you'll hit it fat a lot. Try keeping your head level throughout the swing. Have someone put a club under your chin or make some device of your own. Try to stay tall through the swing, as tall as you are at address.

Agree with Zeph - your swing will need time to adjust to the new length of the irons. Stay patient and maybe just choke up a little for the golf next weekend.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
